Titus Welliver’s Gritty New Western Crime Series Role Gets Exciting Tease As He Debuts Major Villain Character

As the premiere of Dark Winds on AMC nears, Zahn McClarnon – who both stars in and produces the show – has released a new photo featuring Titus Welliver’s character for the upcoming fourth season. The psychological thriller follows Navajo police officer Joe Leaphorn (played by McClarnon) as he and Deputy Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) investigate crimes.

Welliver is among the new actors joining the cast of Dark Winds for its fourth season, set to premiere on February 15th. Zahn McClarnon shared a look at the new season on Instagram, including a photo of Welliver as Dominic McNair, a crime boss who controls the flow of drugs and stolen goods to and from Los Angeles.

The photo shows Welliver wearing a blue button-down shirt and looking serious. A police officer is visible in the background, suggesting the scene is set in a jail or at the Navajo Tribal Police Station.

The photo of Welliver shared by McClarnon reveals more about his character than the trailer did. In the trailer, McNair’s character warned that if a certain girl spoke, the entire situation would fall apart.

A new trailer for season 4 of Dark Winds featured a quick scene with McNair, who ominously stated, “You’re never going to see that girl again.” This line hints at the season’s central mystery: the disappearance of a teenage Navajo girl.

Additional pictures depict Jim Chee glancing over his shoulder while driving his patrol car, Bernadette Manuelito prepared to write in her notepad, Irene Vaggan wearing a hoodie in her car, and Billie Tsosie appearing anxious and concerned.

Titus Welliver is widely recognized for his role as Harry Bosch in the popular series Bosch and Bosch: Legacy. He also made a guest appearance in the spin-off Ballard and is scheduled to film additional episodes. Throughout his career, Welliver has appeared in numerous other well-known shows and films, including Argo, NYPD Blue, Deadwood, Sons of Anarchy, and The Good Wife.

Okay, so there’s some cool new casting news for Dark Winds season 4! Graham Welliver isn’t the only fresh face – Isabel DeRoy-Olson is joining as a regular, which is fantastic. And I’m happy to see Chaske Spencer and Luke Barnett are coming back, though in recurring roles like Welliver this time around. Plus, Franka Potente is going to make a guest appearance, and honestly, she’s always great, so I’m excited about that too.

Other Dark Winds cast members include Jessica Matten and Deanna Allison.

John Wirth leads the creative team behind Dark Winds. He’s joined by producers including Zahn McClarnon, George R.R. Martin (the author of A Song of Ice and Fire), Graham Roland, Anne Hillerman, Tina Elmo, Vince Gerardis, Vince Calandra, Chris Eyre, and Jim Chory.

As a critic, I have to say this series is something special. Adapted from Tony Hillerman’s fantastic Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee novels, it’s earned a rare and well-deserved perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It truly lives up to the hype.

The third season of Dark Winds concluded with Bernadette and Joe successfully dismantling a human trafficking operation. Bernadette killed Budge, Reynolds died, and Tom Spenser managed to avoid prison. The season finale was full of action and left several plot threads open, suggesting they’ll be continued in future episodes.

Dark Winds season 4 premieres Sunday, February 15 at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
