Monique Blackwell has publicly discussed the domestic violence order that police obtained against her former spouse, Tim Blackwell, who hosts the breakfast show on Nova FM.
Last Wednesday, Magistrate Alexander Mijovich issued a temporary Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO) after the case was heard in Newtown Local Court.
Monique, a 45-year-old yoga instructor and mother of three children with her ex-husband, Blackwell, said she neither requested nor fought against the restraining order he obtained.
Okay, let’s clear up some confusion I’ve been seeing reported. There was some inaccurate information circulating – including on Mumbrella – that Monique personally filed a certain application. That’s not quite right. It was actually Constable Goldstein who submitted it on her behalf. I always say, getting the details straight is key, and in this case, it’s important to know who was actually involved.
‘I didn’t request it. But it wasn’t against my wishes,’ she said in a brief statement on Friday.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m often asked about healthy relationships, and safety is paramount. I’ve learned that a court order, specifically an ADVO in this case, has been issued to protect Monique. This means Blackwell, 44, is legally prohibited from any actions that could harm her – that includes physical assault, harassment, threats, or anything that might intimidate her. It’s a serious legal measure designed to ensure her safety and well-being.
He is also prohibited from stalking his ex-wife, or intentionally damaging property or harming any animal owned by or in the care of Monique Bavonia Blackwell.
The Daily Mail isn’t claiming Blackwell did anything wrong, just that these conditions are typical for an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO).
The matter will next be before the court on April 15.
Last week, Paul McGirr, Blackwell’s lawyer from McGirr & Associates, stated that they plan to strongly contest any legal claims against Blackwell. He declined to provide further details.
I won’t be discussing the details of the case, but we intend to strongly defend ourselves. It seems the restraining order is being used to harm, rather than protect.
No violence has been alleged against him, and the application itself is quite weak.
I advised Mr. Blackwell to continue focusing on his work, and I assured him I would take care of everything else.
Regarding this case involving potential violence, I believe the evidence presented is quite weak, and it seems like there are underlying family issues involved.
Shortly after a temporary restraining order was issued, Blackwell—recently moved from a national radio show to Sydney breakfast radio—was seen at a Keli Holiday concert, socializing with celebrities like Kate Ritchie and Abbie Chatfield.
Blackwell seemed relaxed and carefree when he showed up at Selina’s in Coogee, Sydney, for a Nova Red Room performance. He was with his girlfriend, Lizzie Baxter, who used to work as a producer on the Fitzy and Wippa radio show.
In December 2023, Monique announced on Instagram that she and the father of her three children—Bo, 12, Alfie, 9, and Artie, 6—had separated.
She marked the end of their relationship with a post of cherished photos, writing, ‘Some beautiful things truly do last, but this isn’t one of them.’
Thank you for all the kind messages you’ve sent following Tim and my breakup. We appreciate your love, support, and sympathy.
Tim and I will always love and support our children. Our strong friendship also helps our family, and we’re raising our kids to be close friends with each other.
After his wife announced their separation, Blackwell didn’t post anything on Instagram for more than a week. He waited until September 2024 to publicly acknowledge the split.
Tim Blackwell discussed his split and how he’s co-parenting on his podcast, ‘Introducing,’ while talking with singer Missy Higgins.
The radio host shared that he felt like he’d failed as a father after his split from Monique, but he emphasized that they still had a connection and their story wasn’t finished.
Even though we’re no longer a couple, we’re still connected as parents to our children, and that requires effort. It’s like we’re focusing on building a different kind of relationship – one based on co-parenting – instead of the romantic one we used to have, he explained.
Blackwell and Monique first met in 2002 after he moved to Perth to launch Nova 93.7’s drive show.
He described it as a classic, over-the-top romantic story: a huge day for his career that also happened to be the most important day in his love life, as he shared with Stellar magazine in 2018.
Let me tell you, I’ve been in some high-pressure situations, and this one takes the cake! I was presenting to all the key players – executives, the press, the whole nine yards. Honestly, I was terrified – my hands were shaking, I was a nervous wreck! But underneath all that fear, there was this incredible rush of excitement. It was a truly exhilarating experience, even if I was completely petrified at the time.
After everything was finished, we had a big launch party, and Monique was working with the promotions team then, as I recall.
She approached, and I finally felt brave enough to tell her I was new in Perth and would really like to get coffee with her sometime.
Following his marriage split, Blackwell confirmed his relationship with Baxter last year.
