Those shadow giants in the distance in Elden Ring Nightreign are over 2 miles tall—almost as big as the Erdtree—and nobody even mentions them in the game

In a recent video uploaded by Zullie the Witch, the renowned FromSoftware data-miner delved into the enigmatic, distant colossal figures that appear on day two of Elden Ring Nightreign. The primary observation I’ve gleaned: These titans are huge, surpassed in size only by the largest characters found in the Armored Core series within FromSoftware’s collection.

Zullie determined they stood approximately 3,450 meters high, which is more than twice the distance of a standard mile. These colossal figures now hold the title as the most imposing characters in any Soulsborne game, towering above iconic giants like the Dragon God from Demon’s Souls and the giant rope-wielding character from Sekiro.

In Caelid, there are massive skulls scattered everywhere. If these skulls were complete bodies, they wouldn’t even reach the knee level of the Shadow Giants. As Zullie notes, these skulls are more akin to the size of the Erdtree compared to any enemies we battle in Elden Ring.

In terms of the studio as a whole, the Nightreign giants end up in third position, which is smaller compared to the largest characters presented in Armored Core 6. Remarkably, the RLA Strider measures an astounding 4,953 meters, or approximately three miles, in length.

In the game AC6, there’s an impressive structure known as the Planetary Enclosure satellite, which stands at a staggering 5.9 kilometers tall and over 11 kilometers wide. Initially designed to be a challenging boss fight or level, similar to the Strider, it was unfortunately dropped during development. However, it’s interesting to note that the unused NPC version of this satellite is smaller than the large-scale version we see in the final game.

Although these colossal characters now hold a position within the FromSoft lore, we remain clueless about their background or purpose. They are even more enigmatic than typical in FromSoft games when it comes to unraveling mysteries: Nightreign’s concluding scene suggests they play a crucial role in the game’s narrative, yet no direct references or names concerning them can be found within the game itself.

I really enjoy it! It’s classic FromSoft style. If you’re interested in exploring more complex topics and hidden details about the studio, consider subscribing to Zullie the Witch on YouTube for further insights.
