This Henry line from Kingdom Come: Deliverance is so iconic, he’s constantly asked to say it
In the realm of gaming, Kingdom Come: Deliverance has earned a reputation for its expansive medieval setting with challenging survival features and authentic combat. Yet, what’s truly remarkable is the meme culture that has sprung from it, reaching such heights that the game’s protagonist, Henry, portrayed by Tom McKay, is frequently asked to recite an iconic line associated with the game.
For those unfamiliar with the KCD subreddit or the Twitter/X replies, they might find themselves puzzled by people praising Jesus Christ, expressing hunger, or exclaiming that Henry is present. Few games are referenced as frequently as Kingdom Come: Deliverance, with Skyrim being the only game that comes close in comparison.
Every time Henry felt hunger pangs in the initial game, he’d express it by saying, “I’m quite famished.” This occurrence was frequent and often happened during intense moments within the storyline, which has left a lasting impression on the fanbase (and his acting counterpart) since then.
Henry’s actor is well aware of the memes
Tom McKay, the actor who portrayed Henry in both games, acknowledged that he’s familiar with all the internet jokes during his conversation with TopMob’s Fall Damage.
He mentioned that people often expect him to express feeling hungry, and that’s what they seem to want most from him. In truth, he usually does feel hungry in these situations.
OR
He shared that people frequently ask him to say that he’s hungry, which is the thing they seem to long for him to express. Truth be told, he often does feel hungry when this happens.
Developers also noticed this, as Henry frequently shouts “I’m really feeling hungry” to psych out his opponents.
Tom added, “In addition to the memes, there are some fantastic TikTok clips. When the original game was released, this wasn’t commonplace. I didn’t join social media until halfway through last year, so experiencing this aspect of it has been enjoyable. Particularly those where he expresses hunger, and anything related to that always tickles me.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but notice that it’s not just the players adding a dash of wit to the game, but Warhorse Studios themselves seem to have been deeply influenced by the timeless humor found in classic British comedies.
He clarified that the studio often refers back to Monty Python and other classic British comedies. It turns out that there’s a strong interest in such humor in the Czech Republic. Interestingly, Red Dwarf, an older show I adore, seems to be incredibly popular there as well.
It turned out to be quite enjoyable, and everyone seemed enthusiastic, yet there was a sense of uncertainty among us – would anyone take up the idea, or might they find it bizarre instead?
