Things are about to get wild! An Abbott Elementary and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover is happening

As a long-time fan of both “Abbott Elementary” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, I can hardly contain my excitement! This crossover has been a dream come true for me, and I feel like I won the lottery when it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con.

The long-awaited news has arrived: “Abbott Elementary” is teaming up with “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” for a crossover event! After much anticipation, the cat is finally out of the bag. Back at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this summer, creator and star Quinta Brunson hinted at a collaboration between the two shows, but kept the specifics under wraps. Now, it’s official: the ABC comedy “Abbott” will be joining forces with FX’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” So get ready for some unforgettable moments when these beloved series collide!

Friends, I’ve got some exciting news! I predicted this on our sister platform Hidden Remote, and I can hardly believe it’s true! It feels amazing to be validated right now. To be honest, I thought my theory might have been too far-fetched. But I had a hunch that an Abbott Elementary/It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode was on the horizon. Given the compatibility of these shows, it seems like a perfect fit! Although we don’t know the specifics yet, there are numerous directions they could take the storyline. Let’s delve into that shortly.

Rob McElhenney, the co-creator and actor from ‘It’s Always Sunny’, initially broke the news to us fans through an Instagram post. He shared a fantastic picture of him, Brunson, and Charlie Day standing outside Abbott Elementary school with the caption, “Oh. Hello.” Additionally, on his Instagram stories, he also posted a photo featuring the trio along with Danny DeVito, as well as Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis from ‘Abbot’s’ cast. Here are the images for your viewing pleasure!

Brunson posted the same picture accompanied by the caption, “Season 4 of Abbott Elementary is going to be Sunny indeed :).” I can barely contain my excitement, as I believe this will be fantastic! It’s a fusion of two of my current favorite comedies, and they both deliver laughs consistently. Their humor is spot-on, and the characters are genuinely hilarious. The upcoming season promises an exhilarating journey, given that these shows will merge, leading to some unpredictable moments.

According to earlier reports, the highly anticipated crossover episode between Abbott and It’s Always Sunny is scheduled to air on ABC following the winter break in their broadcast schedule. Given that Abbott Elementary Season 4 kicks off on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, we can estimate that the crossover might be shown sometime around February or March 2025.

In a unique blend of comedies, there are plans for two crossover-like episodes. First, the characters from Abbott Elementary will make an appearance in Sunny’s world. Conversely, an episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is scheduled to include the staff from Abbott Elementary. The specific episodes and their release dates on FX’s series (as of now, season 17 doesn’t have a set date) remain undetermined. However, it’s been confirmed that these crossover episodes will air in or around 2025 on ABC.

Even though “Abbott” airs on ABC and “Sunny” on FX, which are separate networks, they are both part of the larger Disney family. After their initial broadcasts, you can find both shows streaming on Hulu the following day. This setup might seem unusual because typically crossover episodes occur between shows on the same network, but this unique collaboration between “Abbott” and “Sunny” is a groundbreaking event that hasn’t been done before in the history of television. It’s quite exciting to see these Disney-owned shows breaking new ground!

These workplace comedies have found their unique niche and continue to push boundaries. I can hardly wait to see what they come up with next! It seems that Brunson hinted at potential problems for the school due to its location undergoing gentrification. Could it be that Paddy’s Pub is also facing this issue, with characters like Mac, Charlie, Dennis, Dee, and Frank dealing with similar struggles?

Previously, we observed the gang attempting work within a school setting. It’s plausible they may transition to Abbott Elementary next. Additionally, Charlie has dyslexia; could this be the catalyst for him finally mastering reading and writing skills? The possibilities for story arcs are numerous! What are your predictions?
