The Witcher has reportedly recast Geralt’s mentor Vesemir for season 4

The Witcher has reportedly recast Geralt's mentor Vesemir for season 4

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as I learn about the latest developments in The Witcher series. Having spent countless hours battling beasts and brewing potions in the original games, I’ve grown quite attached to the world Sapkowski crafted.

Fresh news from Europe! Currently, Netflix is heavily engaged in the production process for season 4 of their fantasy series, “The Witcher.” The latest update on season 4 came around the start of this month when lead actor Liam Hemsworth announced that approximately three weeks of filming remained for the season. This was about two weeks ago, suggesting that production may be wrapping up any day now.

In his debut with “The Witcher,” Chris Hemsworth steps into the main character’s shoes, playing Geralt of Rivia, a role previously held by Henry Cavill after the series’ third season. Swapping actors for key roles can be quite challenging in a show, particularly when the previous actor received widespread appreciation. Given this change, it’s natural that viewers are intrigued about how this transition from one Geralt to another will unfold.

In addition to Geralt of Rivia, who will have a distinctive appearance in season 4, it seems that Vesemir, the mentor who taught Geralt the art of monster hunting, will also be played by a different actor this time around, as suggested by recent production updates.

Who will play Vesemir in The Witcher season 4?

This information about Vesemir being recast doesn’t come from Netflix in any official capacity, but from The Witcher scoop site Redanian Intelligence. They’ve got a great track record with these sorts of leaks and have been keeping a very close eye on the production of season 4, so the chances that it’s legit are very good. That said, we have to give the obligatory warning to take the info with a grain of salt until Netflix confirms it, as we do with all such leaks.

Based on a report from RI, it appears that ‘The Witcher’ season 4 filmed a scene during early summer featuring Geralt reconnecting with his fellow witchers Lambert, Coen, and Vesemir, the leader of Kaer Morhen, the witchers’ stronghold. This scene is expected to appear in either episode 3 or 4. Previously confirmed actors Zates Atour (Coen) and Paul Bullion (Lambert) will be part of the season, while new information suggests Vesemir’s involvement. However, it’s been indicated that actor Kim Bodnia won’t return, leaving the identity of Vesemir still a secret for now; we hope to learn more about this soon.

In a straightforward manner, here’s how you could rephrase that: Although I have some complex emotions about it, they’re not all negative. In season 2 of The Witcher, we last saw Coen, Lambert, and Vesemir. They assisted Geralt and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) in defending against the villain Voleth Meir at Kaer Morhen. I wasn’t a fan of how season 2 portrayed characters like Vesemir or Lambert, so with a new cast member playing Vesemir, there’s only room for improvement. Bodnia was one of the best performers in season 2 as Vesemir, but his characterization in the show made me appreciate him less than I did in the books or video games.

In the series of books known as “The Witcher Saga,” written by Andrzej Sapkowski, Geralt doesn’t meet up with other witchers at this stage in the narrative. However, Coen appears later on in the saga, which is exciting to see since the show has brought him back into the plot. As for the rest of it, “The Witcher” has a tendency to stray from the novels, so I’ll hold off on passing judgment until I watch season 4.

2025 looks promising for fans of “The Witcher” as filming is set to conclude soon, which increases the likelihood that we’ll be able to enjoy a new season sometime next year. Additionally, Netflix has planned to launch an animated spinoff movie titled “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep” on February 11, 2025. To top it off, author Andrzej Sapkowski is working on a fresh “Witcher” book as well. There’s plenty to look forward to in the world of the Continent next year!
