Ginger Wildheart, singer for the band The Wildhearts, has shared that he’s been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer and has chosen not to pursue treatment. He estimates he has two to three years to live.
The 61-year-old musician has been diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL). The band announced the news in a statement on their social media pages on Tuesday.
The band said the musician first felt strong pains while they were touring the UK last December.
He recently shared news of his diagnosis online, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support. He explained that he’s chosen not to pursue treatment, feeling he’s lived a full life and wishes to pass away with dignity.
I’ve been thinking a lot about life lately, and while I know I have a couple of years left, I’m determined to make the most of every single one. I plan to live fully and joyfully until the very end – absolutely no room for sadness! My motto is simple: keep a positive outlook, always.
As I understand it, Ginger really persevered during the More Satanic Rites tour, even when he wasn’t feeling his best. He was determined to give his fans a great show, so he managed the pain with medication and pushed through, not wanting to let anyone down. It’s a testament to his dedication, honestly.
After pushing myself with all those shows, I knew I needed to figure out what was causing my persistent pain. I finally got some tests done, and now I have a confirmed diagnosis. It’s a relief to finally know what’s been going on!
During The Wildhearts’ December 2025 ‘More Satanic Rites’ UK tour, singer and founding member Ginger Wildheart suffered from intense pain. This sometimes caused him to briefly leave the stage during performances.
Ginger didn’t want to disappoint the band’s fans, both longtime supporters and newer ones, so he used painkillers to push through the performance and make sure the music didn’t stop.
It is with great sadness that we share the news that Ginger has been diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a rare and fast-growing type of cancer.
According to Macmillan, Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a type of cancer that starts when certain white blood cells, called B-cells, become abnormal. These B-cells normally help your body fight off infections, but in MCL, they grow out of control.
Lymphoma cells, which are a type of abnormal white blood cell, typically grow in lymph nodes, but they can also spread to other areas of the body.
Even though Ginger has been diagnosed with an illness, the band reports he’s doing well and still working on new songs.
Everything we’ve scheduled, including our performance at Takedown Festival next month, is still happening as expected.
The band is asking fans to send supportive and positive vibes to Ginger as he continues with his treatment and recovery.
Ginger wants everyone to know that she remains strong and optimistic, and the show will continue, even as we process this news and wait for medical guidance.
Don’t miss The Wildhearts – they’re playing shows near you and sound fantastic! You won’t be disappointed.
