The Weeknd announces new tour dates – and some Aussie fans aren’t happy: ‘Are you serious right now?’
As a dedicated fan who has followed The Weeknd‘s career since his early days, I am thrilled to hear that he is finally making his way to Australia after cancelling his tour last year. However, as someone who resides in Brisbane and had eagerly awaited the chance to see him live, I can’t help but feel a tad disappointed by the snubbing of our city this time around. It seems that The Weeknd forgot about us, or perhaps he simply didn’t want to get ‘lost in the dark’ of Brisbane’s nightlife!
As a die-hard fan, I’m overjoyed to share that The Weeknd has at last confirmed his long-awaited journey to our shores! After disappointingly cancelling his previous Australian tour, this news brings an electrifying thrill!
On a recent Instagram post, made on Monday, the renowned performer declared his intention to bring his worldwide After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour to Sydney’s Marvel Stadium and Melbourne’s Accor Stadium, starting in October.
Australia, I haven’t forgotten about you; I’ll see you again in October,’ said the singer from The Hills as he made the tour announcement.
Last November, The Weeknd (whose real name is Abel Tesfaye) delayed his Australian tour, which was set to begin only a few weeks later.
The tour was eventually cancelled, with all sold tickets refunded.
Although some people are pleased with the new performance dates, others have criticized the exclusion of Brisbane and New Zealand, who were initially planned to host the events.
One displeased fan on Instagram expressed their frustration by saying, “I certainly seemed to have overlooked Australia, as I neglected to mention Brisbane and New Zealand.”
They expressed their disappointment by saying something like: “I can’t believe this! It seems Brisbane is playing a trick on us. What exactly is going on there?” (The original sentence contains strong language that may not be suitable for all audiences.)
As a conscientious event enthusiast, I found myself hesitant to purchase tickets for this tour, taking into account its past incidents in Australia, particularly Down Under. To me, the choice to overlook Brisbane seemed quite irrational.
‘Okay ain’t no way,’ they wrote.
“After purchasing tickets for a show last year, I eagerly anticipated its rescheduling, only to receive a refund when it was ultimately canceled. Now, to my disbelief, you’re not putting on a show in Brisbane this time around. It’s really bizarre!”

General ticket sales for The Weeknd’s Australian shows during the After Hours Til Dawn Tour will begin at noon on August 26.
2023 show ticket buyers are eligible to sign up for an early sale opportunity starting from 12pm on Wednesday, August 21. This allows them to secure tickets before the general public.
The Weeknd last performed Down Under as part of his Starboy World Tour in 2017.
The superstar has already achieved massive success on his latest world tour so far.
2023 saw the London Stadium break two attendance records during the tour – the biggest one-night crowd with over 80,000 spectators, and an impressive total of 159,574 attendees across a two-day period.
