The Vampire Diaries star Candice King marries actor Steven Krueger after pregnancy causes wedding date shift

Candice King and Steven Krueger have tied the knot! The couple surprised their fans by having a smaller, more private wedding than they initially intended.

Oh my gosh, you guys, Nina and Ian finally got married! I nearly fainted when I heard! It was super private, of course – they had the ceremony at this gorgeous place called The Chapel at High Point Farm in Tennessee back in February. Seriously, they are the cutest, and I’m SO happy for them!

The couple originally planned a large wedding in Nashville, but they changed their plans when they found out they were expecting a baby.

Krueger shared with Vogue that they opted for a private, intimate wedding weekend in Nashville with only their immediate families, and plan to have a larger party sometime next year.

King, 38, and Krueger, 36, had a small, private wedding with just 15 guests. Those attending included King’s daughters, Florence and Josephine, and Krueger’s two nieces.

There were fifteen of us altogether – Candice brought her daughters, and I had my two nieces with me – and it was a wonderful gathering,” Krueger said.

Despite the small guest list, the couple was adamant about making their wedding day special. 

According to King, the biggest challenge was ensuring all guests were comfortable and could easily get around, whether the event was a small elopement with 15 people or a larger wedding with 200.

Krueger explained that they kept things simple and prioritized what mattered most. “We were thrilled with how everything turned out,” she said. “We really focused on the three key elements: photography, flowers, and food.”

King also had to navigate the challenge of finding a wedding dress while pregnant.

‘Shockingly, there’s not a huge market for wedding dresses that fit over a baby bump,’ she said. 

She admitted she was anxious about finding a wedding dress that would make her feel both beautiful and comfortable as a new mom, joking that she didn’t want to look bulky like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from the movie Ghostbusters.

The couple fell in love while filming The Originals and publicly announced their relationship on Instagram in December 2023.

King posted a year-in-review video featuring a cute kiss between them and their partner, with a caption reflecting on a year full of emotions: ‘I laughed, I cried, I loved – and thanks for the memories, 2023!’

Krueger proposed in May 2025, and King shared the news on Instagram the next day, letting everyone know they’d been engaged in secret for about two weeks.

‘I think 38 just might be my favorite year yet ,’  King wrote. 

I said yes! A couple of weeks ago, Steven asked me to marry him, and it’s the most wonderful feeling. Getting older is so much better knowing I’ll be sharing my life with him. Thank you, Steven, for asking me to journey through life with you. And thank you all for the lovely birthday wishes!

Before marrying Steven Bartels, King was married to Joe King, the guitarist from the band The Fray. They have two daughters together and separated in 2022.

Now, with Krueger, King is expecting her third child and first with her new husband.

Candice King played Caroline Forbes on The Vampire Diaries, a show that aired for eight seasons between 2009 and 2017.

She returned to her role in 2018 for the last season of The Originals and also made a brief appearance in Legacies during its final season in 2022.

Meanwhile, Krueger played the role of Josh Rosza on The Originals for five seasons, appearing from 2013 to 2018.

Krueger is currently starring as Coach Ben Scott on the Showtime drama Yellowjackets.
