New episodes of The Simpsons will be released this summer but not on its usual network.
Three new episodes of The Simpsons are coming soon, and you’ll be able to watch them only on Disney+. First, a two-part episode called “Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition” will be available on June 17th. Then, “Simpsley” will arrive on July 3rd, and “Yellow Mirror” will be released on August 26th.
Disney+ shared a brief trailer giving a sneak peek at the first of three upcoming episodes. You can watch it here:
In the first episode, titled “Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition,” Homer and Marge try to enjoy a night out, but things don’t quite go as expected. Marge realizes their children weren’t left with a babysitter – Homer had simply set up a doorbell camera to watch them instead.
She starts imagining alternate versions of her husband and how their lives would have changed if he had been different. The upcoming two-part episode will star Betty Gilpin, Laufey, and the musical duo Tegan & Sara.
The new trailer highlights a two-part episode where Marge questions her life with Homer, asking, “Why can’t I have a normal husband?” She then drifts off to sleep after having a few drinks and begins to dream about an alternate reality.
In a daydream, Marge imagines Homer as “brave, dependable, and unafraid.” The scene concludes with her snapping back to reality and noticing she’s been lost in thought, staring at her drink for eight minutes.
The second episode, “Simpsley,” is a humorous take on the movie The Talented Mr. Ripley. It features Marge Bouvier going to Italy to convince Seymour Skinner to come back home. However, Marge, who isn’t very good at deceiving people, is drawn to Skinner’s luxurious life, and things get complicated when Homer Simpson arrives as a guest.
The season finale, “Yellow Mirror,” shows Homer discovering a disturbing reality thanks to a broken lamp. Meanwhile, Maggie becomes fascinated with a smart tablet.
Although The Simpsons has been on FOX for many years, it hasn’t always been shown only on the network.
As a huge animation fan, I’ve really enjoyed the special short films Disney+ has been releasing for The Simpsons over the last few years – starting in 2021 and continuing through 2024. They’ve done some clever ones, like The Force Awakens from Its Nap, The Good, the Bart and the Loki, When Billie Met Lisa, Rogue Not Quite One, May the 12th Be with You, and The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. It’s great to see them experimenting with these little stories!
Disney+ released the complete episodes of “O C’mon All Ye Faithful,” “The Past and the Furious,” and “Yellow Planet” between December 2024 and April 2025.
In 2007, The Simpsons expanded to the big screen with The Simpsons Movie, which was a box office success, earning $536 million and receiving nominations for several awards, including the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards, and BAFTAs. Another movie is currently planned for release on September 3, 2027.
The short films The Longest Daycare and Playdate with Destiny were shown in movie theaters before the features Ice Age: Continental Drift and Onward.
Following three new episodes on Disney+, season 38 of The Simpsons is scheduled to begin airing on FOX in Fall 2026. It will air on Sundays at 8 p.m. Eastern time, before the shows Animal Control, Universal Basic Guys, and Grimsburg. FOX hasn’t announced an exact premiere date yet.
