The Rings of Power season 2 helps Prime Video grow significantly

As a long-time Tolkien enthusiast and avid gamer, I must admit that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has managed to captivate me in ways I never expected. Despite some criticism, the show’s second season has proven to be a significant player in the streaming world, with its share of TV usage increasing by 12% in September.

The second installment of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” television series has concluded, and despite receiving some constructive criticism, including from us, it has managed to garner a loyal fanbase. As per a recent analysis by Nielsen, the most trusted rating authority in the industry, the usage share of Amazon Prime Video on TVs increased by 12% in September compared to August, surpassing any other service in growth. While Prime Video still lags behind Netflix (7.9%) and YouTube (10.6%) in terms of TV usage, it outperforms Disney+ (2.5%) and Hulu (2.4%).

In September, Prime Video saw significant growth primarily due to the second season of “The Rings of Power” and “Thursday Night Football.” Specifically, “The Rings of Power” was streamed for an astounding 4.3 billion minutes last month, placing it as the third most-watched title on streaming platforms during that period.

Well, it’s clear that “The Rings of Power” is really delivering! The cast and crew are all excited about the potential for a third season, though no official word has been given yet. Here’s hoping we get some news soon so we can continue our epic journey in Middle-earth!

Markella Kavenagh (Nori) on finding out she’s working with Gandalf

In the upcoming third season, we can expect more thrilling journeys featuring the wizard once called the Stranger, now unveiled as Gandalf – a character deeply entrenched in J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic saga, The Lord of the Rings. Markella Kavenagh, who portrayed Nori the harfoot, his travel companion, shared with CBR that discovering his true identity was an extraordinary experience for her.

I’ve had my suspicions for a very long time, like since the first rehearsal, when I asked about it, and they just very much went and sidetracked (me). But, I found out really, really late in the process of filming Season 2. I think they really wanted to keep it as under wraps as possible.

In essence, discovering the Stranger’s identity didn’t affect how Kavenagh and Daniel Weyman portrayed their characters because, at this stage in Middle-earth’s history, Gandalf hadn’t yet established his reputation, so there was no reason for anyone to know how crucial he would eventually become. Instead, our focus was on developing our relationship and friendship, aiming to bring that aspect of the story to life, which was most significant for us, Kavenagh explained.

At the conclusion of The Rings of Power season 2, I found myself disappointed as I felt Nori and Gandalf had one of the most captivating and intriguing relationships on the series. If the show continues for a third season (which I hope it will, assuming no unexpected disaster), I’m curious to see if these two characters might reconnect.
