The Pitt Season 2 Finale Sets Massive Viewership Record For HBO Max Series

Season 2 of The Pitt has not only received excellent reviews, but it’s also become the most-watched season of the show ever.

The HBO Max medical drama, created by ER veteran R. Scott Gemmill and developed with the help of fellow veterans Noah Wyle and John Wells, quickly became a popular and critically acclaimed hit. The show’s second season was even more successful, earning a near-perfect 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and attracting a viewership 200% higher than the premiere of its first season.

As first reported by Variety, the season 2 finale of The Pitt broke records for the HBO Max medical drama. It attracted 9.7 million viewers over its first four days. Overall, the season averaged 15.4 million viewers across all 15 episodes – a 50% increase from season one. This makes The Pitt only the sixth series in HBO Max history to average over 15 million viewers.

Besides the new season, only a few other HBO Max shows have consistently drawn over 15 million viewers. These include the Game of Thrones spin-offs, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the popular series The White Lotus, the adaptation of The Last of Us starring Bella Ramsey, and the IT prequel, Welcome to Derry.
