The Pitt boss responds to major exit of character who has been a “huge part of our show”

The creator of The Pitt explained that a key character won’t be back for season three because of the direction the story is taking, not any other reason.

Supriya Ganesh, who played Dr. Samira Mohan for the first two seasons of the show, will not be returning. The season finale hinted at her character considering new opportunities, and it’s now been confirmed she won’t be part of future episodes.

“It’s sort of the nature of the show,” series boss R Scott Gemmill told Variety.

The medical world is constantly changing, with doctors and staff coming and going as they progress in their careers. We want our show to reflect that reality, so we’re going to introduce a new cast of characters.

Noah Wyle, who stars in, produces, and writes the show, explained that this kind of situation is expected to occur each season.

He went on to explain that it’s difficult for writers to determine how much time can pass before it becomes unrealistic to keep the same group of characters together.

Our emergency room scenes often feature a lot of new faces, as we’re constantly introducing new characters or giving existing ones more prominent roles to keep the stories interesting. However, Supriya has been a vital member of the show from the very start.

Everyone loves Dr. Mohan, and I’ve really enjoyed working with her and Supriya. We’re all sad to see her go and wish her the best in whatever she does next.

The actress was scheduled to appear at a PaleyFest screening of the final episode, where her co-stars, Gemmill and Wyle, talked with Variety. However, a few days after news of her departure from the show became public, it was announced she wouldn’t be attending.

The Pitt airs on HBO in the US and streams on HBO Max/NOW in the UK.
