The season finale of The Night Manager left viewers stunned with two major character deaths. According to creator David Farr, a pivotal scene between Roxana and Roper was originally even more intense than what made it to air.
The second season of the spy show, based on John Le Carré’s book, ended with a shocking finale that will significantly impact the storylines of the already-planned third season.

After the final episode aired, Farr revealed that a key scene featuring Roxana (Camila Morrone) and Hugh Laurie’s character, Roper, was designed to hint at how the story would end.
Okay, so in this episode, things really heated up! Roper finally cornered Roxy and demanded answers about her and Jonathan Pine. Turns out, she spilled the beans to Roper about Teddy – my guy’s actually working against him! It was a total betrayal moment, and I was on the edge of my seat!
She firmly stated she wasn’t in love with Jonathan, clarifying that if anyone had feelings for him, it wasn’t her.
That moment completely changes everything,” Farr explained to Variety. “There’s something interesting about that scene – we can discuss it now because the original filming actually went even further.
Roper’s reaction shows he finally understands where Teddy’s loyalties lie. It’s the point where it all clicks, and he realizes he’s been manipulated.
Surprisingly, a crucial moment in the season revolves around Roxana; her sharp understanding is what allows Roper to realize the need to alter the weapons delivery plan.
I really appreciate that the showrunner, Farr, held back on revealing too much! It means we’ll get some genuinely surprising twists and turns in the season finale, and I can’t wait to be completely shocked by everything that happens. It’s nice knowing they want us to enjoy the ride and not spoil it for us beforehand.
We decided to cut that part of the scene because we thought it would reveal too much of the story too soon, he explained.
Despite everything, the conversation between Roxana and Roper makes Roper understand the truth, ultimately deciding Teddy’s destiny.
Farr appreciated that Roper received a complete and clear understanding in that moment, saying, ‘I like that she gives it to him.’
