The Mummy 4 Update Reveals Release Date Window for Brendan Fraser Movie

The next installment of Universal’s The Mummy series now has a confirmed release date, and two of the film’s biggest stars are officially returning.

When will The Mummy 4 come out?

A new report from Deadline says that The Mummy 4—currently without an official title—is scheduled to hit theaters on May 19, 2028. Universal had previously reserved that date for a major film, and now we know what project it will be. The studio also announced some exciting casting news for the movie.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are confirmed to return for another installment in the original film series, according to Deadline. Previously, discussions were underway for their involvement, but now it’s official: Fraser will once again play Rick O’Connell, and Weisz will reprise her role as Evelyn Carnahan.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known as Radio Silence, are directing the next Mummy movie. They also co-wrote the script with David Coggeshall. It’s currently unknown if any of the original actors will be back for the sequel.

Audiences won’t just see one mummy movie soon. Another one is in the works from Warner Bros. Pictures, scheduled for release next spring. This film, produced by Jason Blum and James Wan and directed by Lee Cronin, stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Verónica Falcón, and May Calamawy.

The first Mummy movie came out in 1999 and was so popular it led to two sequels: The Mummy Returns in 2001 and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008. Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, and Arnold Vosloo all appeared in The Mummy Returns. For Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, only Fraser and Hannah returned, and Maria Bello took over the role of Evelyn, previously played by Weisz.
