There are some Sydney ‘celebrities’ who really get my goat.
Abbie Chatfield is known for frequently posting sponsored content, and trainer Jono Castano is a close second when it comes to these types of posts.
I strongly dislike both of these people for personal reasons, and I’d rather not discuss them, as it would likely upset me.
Instead, let me give you a few names of the Sydney women I do have a lot of time for.
The group includes Dina Broadhurst, a nude artist from Double Bay, Brittany Hockley, who’s a former reality TV contestant and successful podcaster, and Laura Csortan, a model and TV personality.
I also really admire yoga instructor Monique Pickles and model Simone Holtznagel – I fully supported Simone after her recent public disagreement with her ex-partner.
Let’s not forget Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, the popular and longtime co-host of The Kyle and Jackie O Show on KIIS FM. She’s been a fixture on the show for years!
And it’s Jackie I want to talk to you about today.
As a huge fan, I was really shocked to hear Jackie’s taking some time away from the show. It all started after that difficult on-air disagreement she had with Kyle last week, and honestly, it’s been tough to watch. I’m hoping she gets the space she needs to come back refreshed.
Okay, let’s talk about navigating tough conversations. I recently heard about a situation where someone was called out for letting personal interests – in this case, astrology – bleed into their work life. Apparently, it came across as unprofessional and a bit distracting. It’s a good reminder that while it’s great to have passions, keeping work and personal life separate is often key. And honestly? A little self-awareness goes a long way – maybe save the Saturn rising analysis for after hours!
It was honestly a really awkward and cringeworthy experience. I actually lowered the volume because it felt like I was accidentally listening in on a difficult conversation between a couple who weren’t getting along.
I completely understood why Jackie left the studio in tears and immediately took a week off. I would have reacted the same way.
Honestly, it’s way too simple to say this whole thing just boiled down to the moon being in Capricorn, or even that Pisces – and yes, I’m a Pisces! – is somehow better than other signs. That would be a really shallow way to look at it.
I believe this situation has been building for a long time. Media commentator Rob McKnight agrees, and he explained his reasoning here, though I reached the same conclusion through a different line of thinking.
Back in 2018, Jackie separated from her husband of fifteen years, Lee Henderson, who was a photographer. This meant she became a single mother to their daughter, Kitty, and had to adjust to life on her own after what had appeared to be a stable, conventional marriage.
And this is when I believe the shift slowly began.
Before her divorce, Jackie came across as a down-to-earth working mother, despite being wealthy. She was warm, a little goofy, and didn’t take herself too seriously. It was similar to how Celeste Barber was before becoming a famous influencer – before the polished image, filters, and fame changed her, she was known for poking fun at those very same influencers.
She experienced a common post-divorce makeover, similar to the inspiring transformations often seen on Instagram – a fresh start and a renewed sense of self.
At 51, Jackie looks amazing. She’s focused on her fitness, refined her fashion sense, and successfully integrated herself into the popular social scene in the eastern suburbs.
But has she lost some of her appeal in the process?
I can already anticipate the backlash: people will accuse me of being unfair to Jackie for judging her based on her friends, insisting she’s free to choose who she associates with.
That all makes sense, and I don’t mean to imply anything negative about Jackie’s friends – I’m sure they’re all wonderful people.
I honestly find that whole social scene really unpleasant and fake. Many of the women there seem untrustworthy and would happily betray you.
Following her separation from her husband, Jackie became close friends with publicist Roxy Jacenko, something Kyle would sometimes bring up on his show.
That was just the start.
She quickly became close friends with fashion designer Pip Edwards and TV personality Carrie Bickmore, both of whom had also experienced positive changes after their divorces.
Pip and Carrie seem great, and it’s wonderful to see Jackie thriving after her divorce! She’s been enjoying life to the fullest – relaxing on yachts, attending parties with famous people, and taking luxurious vacations in Greece.
I absolutely support Jackie enjoying the good things in life – she’s worked hard for everything she has, and deserves to be happy. Especially considering how bravely she overcame her addiction. I understand firsthand how difficult that journey can be.
But this is where it gets uncomfortable, so hear me out.
The Kyle and Jackie O Show on commercial radio does so well because listeners feel like they’re hanging out with friends each morning – the hosts are very relatable.
It remains popular because listeners feel completely immersed in the experience, as if they’re right in the studio – whether they’re driving on the highway, doing chores at home, or taking kids to school.
Jackie was the kind of person you immediately felt you could trust. Kyle, on the other hand, was the life of the party – a bit of a show-off with a newly acquired wealth, sometimes a little rough around the edges, but ultimately a good person who always spoke his mind. I actually met him years ago at a charity event for Ronald McDonald House, and he was incredibly sweet and charming.
I’m completely captivated by these two! He’s all fire and chaos, constantly stirring things up, but she’s the perfect balance – so steady and able to handle anything he throws her way. Honestly, their connection is incredible, and it’s totally clear why they’re such a successful duo – they’ve really earned their keep.
It’s hard to explain, but Kyle hasn’t changed much over the years. Jackie, however, is very different from the person everyone adored when she and Kyle first got together. She’s not the same anymore.
Let me be clear: her transformation is for the better and she’s allowed to evolve.
It’s clear things have shifted, and the previous winning approach is no longer working. The brief interest in things like astrology was likely just a temporary distraction.
As a longtime fan, I’ve been wondering if Jackie’s recent image change feels a little disconnected from her original western Sydney fanbase – the people who get KJO. And honestly, I’m not sure how much of it will resonate with potential new listeners in Melbourne, which they’re really hoping to attract. It just feels… different, and I’m worried it might alienate the core audience.
Has she changed things up? Have her new interests – like spending time with friends, exploring spirituality through podcasts, and attending high-society events – altered the situation?
It’s unlikely that astrology is the sole cause of the problem. Kyle’s annoyance is clear, especially considering how dismissively he rejects her interests in public.
Come on, this isn’t really about Mercury in retrograde, is it?
It’s clear things have really fallen apart between these two – they used to be so connected, but now they feel completely distant. And Kyle, let’s be direct: you were wrong to yell at Jackie on the air. Every woman I’ve spoken to agrees it was unkind and embarrassing, and that’s really all there is to say about it.
As any woman over 40 will tell you, change is good. It’s healthy.
When it comes to radio, particularly a popular show like The Kyle and Jackie O Show, listeners keep tuning in because they enjoy the comfortable feeling of familiarity.
Jackie has changed and grown in a wonderful way, but Kyle has stayed true to who he is. There’s nothing wrong with either approach. Now, they both need to decide if they’ll continue to live separate lives, or if they can find a way to reconnect and work together.
