The Duskbloods is less Dark Souls and more Elden Ring Nightreign with “over a dozen characters” who can only “be customized to a certain extent”
In contrast to FromSoftware’s previous games like Dark Souls that allow for character customization, The Duskbloods, exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, offers a different approach. Instead of crafting your own character, you choose and personalize pre-made characters similar to Elden Ring’s Nightreign.
In a recent Creator’s Voice blog post, Hidetaka Miyazaki, who is behind Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, and The Duskbloods, explained how the upcoming Switch 2 game functions. He shared that there are more than a dozen characters for players to select, each with their unique identity and appearance. Some of these characters, such as the character resembling the Rocketeer with a jetpack, have been featured in its initial trailer.
Miyazaki added, “I believe the characters’ designs and weapon choices offer many distinctive aspects. I hope players discover one or more favorites among them. Moreover, players have some flexibility in customizing their characters, which adds an enjoyable element of creating a personalized persona.
In a more casual manner of expression: Unlike games such as Dark Souls where you can drastically alter characters’ appearances and skills, The Duskbloods won’t let you completely transform their faces or build them from scratch. However, what it offers is an extensive customization option that allows players to tailor various aspects of their characters, including abilities, looks, personality traits, roles in the game world, and relationships with other characters. What makes this game particularly intriguing is the role system, which gives each player individual objectives within the PvPvE environment, ensuring that everyone has a unique experience while striving to win the match as a team.
As an illustration, having the ‘Destined Rivals’ part implies that you must track down a specific opponent somewhere on the map. On the other hand, the ‘Destined Companion’ role provides you with a designated ally to locate instead. Notably, roles can be assigned to any character through blood customization, thereby enabling players to immerse themselves in role-playing scenarios and potentially enhance the tension of these interactions.
