The Conjuring star joins The Last of Us amid season 3 cast shake-up

I’m so excited to hear Patrick Wilson is joining season three of The Last of Us! Deadline reported he’ll be playing Jerry, which means we’re finally going to meet Abby’s (Kaitlyn Dever) dad. It’s a bit sad to see him move on from The Conjuring universe, but I’m really looking forward to seeing what he brings to this role in the show.

The third season, planned for release in 2027, is undergoing significant casting changes. Notably, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, and Spencer Lord – who played Mel, Nora Harris, and Owen Moore in season two – will now be main cast members.

The cast is growing! Clea DuVall will be joining as a seraphite, and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. is taking on the role of Manny, which Danny Ramirez played before.

Jason Ritter, husband of Melanie Lynskey from The Last of Us, will return for season three. He’s no stranger to the HBO show – he previously played a Clicker in season one – but this time he’ll be playing Hanley, a soldier with the Washington Liberation Front.

Despite some cast updates this year, Bella Ramsey, Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna, and Jeffrey Wright are all anticipated to return as their characters from past seasons of The Last of Us.

What to Read Next

Craig Mazin returns as a showrunner for the new season, but Neil Druckmann, who previously co-created the show, will now only be an executive producer.

Last July, Neil Druckmann announced on Instagram that he was leaving his active creative role with HBO’s The Last of Us.

Now that season 2 is finished and before we begin serious work on season 3, I’m shifting my full attention back to Naughty Dog and what comes next. Creating the show has been a fantastic experience, and I’m incredibly proud to have worked with Craig Mazin as an executive producer, director, and writer on the past two seasons.

He expressed his gratitude for the cast and crew’s careful and dedicated work in bringing The Last of Us Part I to life, and for their ongoing work on The Last of Us Part II. He’s excited to see HBO and PlayStation Productions continue Ellie and Abby’s story in the next season.

The Last of Us airs on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW in the UK. The show airs on HBO in the US.
