The Boys Boss Eric Kripke Opens Up About Season 5’s Celebrity Death Scenes

death toll continues to rise, but with good reason.

The death of the Firecracker was meant to be both sad and complex. It’s a cruel irony that she sacrificed everything, only to be killed for it. I think audiences recognize the truth in that – when you try to please someone who’s self-absorbed, they’ll never truly appreciate it, and will eventually betray you. However, the deaths that happened at Marathon’s Mansion were all intended to be comedic.

Kripke explained the shocking massacre in “One-Shots” was something the team had planned for years. He revealed Jared Padalecki’s fate was designed to be a wildly entertaining moment, and that Evan Goldberg had long championed the idea of bringing Seth Rogen and as many of their friends as possible into the scene to be dramatically defeated by the heroes – a sort of playful “destruction of Hollywood.” The biggest challenge, Kripke said, was figuring out how to make the multiple deaths feel unique. He and the team focused on creatively varying how Marathon killed each person – avoiding repetition and finding diverse and interesting ways to stage each death, like the ping pong ball sequence and Seth Rogen’s specific demise involving his lower torso. They paid close attention to the staging of each death to keep the scene visually fresh and engaging.

When questioned about possible deleted scenes, known as “One-Shots,” that he had previously mentioned, Kripke admitted he wasn’t sure if they were ever actually filmed. He explained that he hadn’t reviewed every single moment of footage and that these scenes might have been captured without him realizing it. He plans to check if the footage exists and, if so, might release it to the public.

The Boys Is Set To End With Season 5

Eric Kripke has revealed that The Boys is heading towards its conclusion, with only a few episodes left. He admitted it wasn’t easy to convince Amazon to end the series despite its success on Prime Video. Kripke explained that he had to persuade the platform to prioritize the show’s creative vision over continued profits. Fortunately, Amazon ultimately supported his and the writers’ plans, allowing them to finish the story as intended.

According to the showrunner of The Boys, five seasons feels like a natural stopping point for the series. They’ve been discussing this with Amazon since Season 2, and by the middle of Season 3, they had a clear idea of how they wanted the story to conclude. Getting Amazon and Sony to agree on a Season 5 finale required some negotiation and convincing.

The Boys Season 5 finale releases in theaters on May 19 and on Prime Video on May 20.
