The biggest WandaVision Easter Egg you never noticed
As a gamer with a heart for Marvel and an eye for details, I must say that WandaVision was nothing short of a masterpiece. It was like being transported into a parallel universe where sitcoms and superheroes coexisted, all while keeping us on our toes with unexpected twists and turns.
Marvel Studio’s “WandaVision” was nothing short of extraordinary in every aspect. As the first Disney Plus series within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it kicked off Phase Four with a bang, receiving widespread praise from critics, captivating fans, and even earning its first Emmy nominations (and victories). It was an exhilarating journey filled with unexpected twists and turns that kept us on our toes throughout. The surprises just didn’t seem to end, leaving us constantly guessing what would happen next.
Absolutely, the series WandaVision was filled with Easter eggs, homages, and callbacks. It referenced not only incidents from within the Marvel Cinematic Universe but also broader television culture. For instance, it paid tribute to shows like I Love Lucy, Bewitched, and The Brady Bunch, while subtly hinting at significant elements of the MCU and Marvel Universe, such as the misdirection involving Quicksilver.
Yet, tucked away deeply within the intricacies of the series, there lies an Easter Egg that could easily escape your notice.
Stan Lee’s Birthday Easter Egg in WandaVision episode 7
In the seventh episode of the Disney Plus miniseries, WandaVision, a heartfelt homage was made to comedies of the 2010s, particularly office-based sitcoms like The Office. This is evident as Wanda Maximoff, our protagonist, engages in direct address to the audience, a common trope in modern comedies. As she delves deeper into her reality, she starts to question its authenticity.
In the initial scenes, the title “Wanda” is displayed in various styles and places, such as shop fronts and road signs. Interestingly, one of these objects is a personalized car license plate that reads both “Wanda” and the numbers 122822. Though some might have picked up on this, it was mostly overlooked for quite some time. However, it holds significance; it’s actually a date – Stan Lee’s birthday, December 28, 1922.
In an interview with Screen Rant, WandaVision director Matt Shakman admitted to including a tribute to Marvel Comics legend, Stan Lee. This homage has gained attention once more, as the official Stan Lee Instagram account recognized the license plate tribute and verified that it was indeed a reference to Stan Lee’s birthday.
In 2018, at the age of 95, the iconic Marvel character bid farewell, yet his legacy lived on as he made appearances in two more Marvel Cinematic Universe movies that he had previously filmed cameos for (Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame). It was WandaVision, the first MCU production without him, that paid a heartfelt, beautiful tribute to the legendary figure responsible for creating many of our adored Marvel characters.
As a devoted fan, I can confidently say that “WandaVision” set the bar high for the Disney+ era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since then, more than ten series have been given the green light on this platform, including two intriguing spin-offs – “Agatha All Along” and “Vision Quest”.
Several people continue to view this show as the best within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s challenging not to concur. One of numerous instances demonstrating its careful attention to detail, such as this subtle Easter Egg, highlights its exceptional quality as a television production.
