LEGO has unveiled its biggest-ever set based on “The Lord of the Rings”: Minas Tirith (set number 11377). With 8,278 pieces, this impressive model is also a key part of LEGO’s celebration of the 25th anniversary of Peter Jackson’s film trilogy. It will be available to LEGO Insiders members starting June 1st, and for everyone else on June 4th.
The most impressive design choice in this LEGO set is its dual-scale build. From the front, it looks like a detailed, miniature version of Minas Tirith, perfectly capturing the city’s seven levels, walls, and central tower. But turn it around, and it transforms into a fully explorable, minifigure-scale interior. You can see the impressive throne room, complete with statues and a beautifully designed tiled floor – the LEGO designers clearly put a lot of effort into this detail. This technique is similar to what was used for the 2024 Barad-dûr set, but it’s been improved and expanded to create an entire city instead of just a tower. With 8,278 pieces, this is the largest LEGO Lord of the Rings set ever made, and at about 7.8 cents per piece, it offers excellent value for money within the Icons collection this year.
Okay, so the minifigures in this set are all about the Battle of Minas Tirith and what happened right after – they’re exclusive to this set, which is awesome. You get Aragorn as King Elessar, looking totally regal, and Gandalf the White with Shadowfax, which is a huge plus. The supporting characters are great too – Arwen, Faramir, Denethor, and even Pippin are included. There are also four Soldiers of Gondor, and each one has a different helmet, printed shield, and updated armor – a really nice touch. The little extras, like the Gondor helmets and Aragorn’s crown, really make this set special. You can either put it on display or actually recreate scenes from the movie – it’s perfect for both!
The 25th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings isn’t just a coincidence. LEGO has been actively developing its adult collector line, Icons, and sets like “The Shire” (coming in 2025) and “Sauron’s Helmet” (2026) show they plan to release impressive sets yearly. The Minas Tirith set is the centerpiece of this strategy: it’s large, incredibly detailed, and a recognizable symbol that can either be the foundation of a collection or a stunning display piece on its own. Standing 59cm tall and 62cm wide, it’s a substantial build that will be a showstopper if you have space for it.
LEGO Insiders can buy the “Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith” set starting June 1st, and it will be available to everyone else on June 4th. If you buy between June 1st and June 7th, you’ll also get the “Grond” set as a free gift, but supplies are limited.
