The Acolyte episode 8 recap: They did [spoiler] so dirty!

The Acolyte episode 8 recap: They did [spoiler] so dirty!

As I read through this passage, my heart ached for the twisted fate of the sisters, Mae and Osha. Having lived a life steeped in the ways of the Force, I couldn’t help but be drawn into their story of love, betrayal, and redemption.

This contains full spoilers for Star Wars: The Acolyte episode 8.

Following the disclosure of the past events on Brendok in episode 7, titled “Choice,” it’s now time to draw the first season of Star Wars: The Acolyte to a close.

Let’s recap everything you missed in episode 8.

Inside Qimir’s helmet, where we last left Osha in episode 6, we hear her labored breathing. Qimir observes as she begins to choke, fighting for air within the confined space. Suddenly, Qimir is prevented from intervening by an unseen force, his eyes darkening ominously, reminiscent of the witches on Brendok and their mind-controlling abilities.

I was locked in a mental battle with my opponent for what felt like an eternity before I managed to tear off their helmet. My adversary, Osha, claimed she had seen her sister, Mae, extending her hand after slaying Master Sol. A lightsaber clenched in her grip, but she hadn’t struck a blow. It dawned on me then that Mae was capable of inflicting lethal damage even without a weapon – the very lesson Qimir had attempted to impart earlier in the season.

I’ve picked up from Osha that the future isn’t set in stone, and there’s still a chance to prevent Mae from reaching her destination. Qimir proposes an intriguing solution: we could join him on his ship and race to intercept Mae. Let’s see who makes it first!

As a gamer, I hop over to Sol and Mae’s location, bringing Mae with me to Brendok. I fill them in about the planet’s peculiar vergence and my intentions to reach out to Vernestra Rwoh. I’m determined to prove its existence. While we’re talking, Mae sneakily activates Pip – the AI she reprogrammed during episode 6 – in an attempt to find a way out of her restraints.

Mae has good reason to be angry as the Jedi have intruded upon her home uninvited. However, Sol tries to clarify that they aren’t sisters or even identical, but before he can finish his explanation, Mae breaks loose and surprises him with Pip. Escaping their grasp, she swiftly boards a getaway spaceship.

As a seasoned space explorer with decades of experience under my belt, I can tell you that one thing is for certain: navigating through planetary rings is never an easy feat. I, Sol, was no exception to this rule. I eagerly followed my ship, which I had affectionately named Mae, into the treacherous maze of debris surrounding a gas giant. The thrill of the chase was short-lived as I soon realized that the rings were taking a heavy toll on my vessel. Being the larger ship, I was an easy target for the errant rocks and ice chunks that relentlessly pelted my hull.

On Coruscant, I come across Padawan Mog who interrupts me, informing me that Senator Rayencourt is waiting for me. I approach the senator with a smile, exchanging friendly greetings. However, Rayencort wastes no time and expresses his concern about my ongoing murder investigation which he believes the Senate should be made aware of. I gently dismiss his suggestion, but he insists that the Jedi Order wields too much power in our government, masquerading as a religious institution. He fears that one of us may lose control at some point and cause harm.

Vernestra indicates the exit to him, and he mentions that he’ll inform Chancellor Drellik about her alleged lack of transparency, which may lead to a Senate hearing in the future.

A strange figure with bulging fingers emerges from the shadows of the cave, gazing at the flying objects from the safety of the entrance.

On the planet Brendok, Sol makes a safe landing with the spaceship and activates the emergency beacon. He then sets out in search of Mae, employing the power of the Force as his guide. Meanwhile, Bazil stays behind, observing as Sol departs.

On Coruscant, I find myself in the need of conveying a message to someone. A male voice responds, pondering on the next steps. Suddenly, Mog appears, sharing the news that they’ve located Sol on Brendok. I instruct him to ready a ship and assemble the knights for what we hope will bring a satisfactory conclusion.

Osha and Qimir make their descent and touch down, while Sol observes from afar as they approach. In the fortress, Sol is struck by memories of the devastation that has persisted for sixteen years. Calling out for Mae, he senses regret in the Force, reaching back to past errors. He arrives at the bridge where once he had left Mae behind.

Upon the arrival of Osha and Qimir, there’s a startling moment as if a vision washes over Ida: Qimir is no longer by her side, and she distinctly hears his voice echoing within her mind. Ida manages to get the elevator that leads into the fortress functioning once more.

Sixteen years ago, Mae climbed back up to her former room from where she had tumbled down. In the corridor outside, Qimir put on his cortosis helmet once more and encountered Sol. He expressed gratitude to the Jedi for guiding the Sith to his former apprentice.

The two men pull out their swords in the hallway leading to the bridge exterior, engaging in a fierce fight. For the next stage of their confrontation, they jump down into the courtyard. Sol uses the Force to shield himself against Sol’s attacks and sabers. This action infuriates the enraged adversary.

In the familiar confines of their old bedroom, Osha comes across her sister Mae. Mae makes an effort to clarify that it was Sol who deceived her. Osha recalls that Sol had never blamed Mae, but instead attempted to instill in Osha a sense of love and affection towards her sister. Nevertheless, Osha harbored deep resentment against Mae during their mourning of their late mother. She confesses that she never pursued the path of becoming a Jedi. Trying once more, Mae reveals that Sol was responsible for their mother’s demise.

As she charged toward her, Osha aggressively attacked Mae in a fierce struggle. Meanwhile, beyond the confines of their fight, Sol and Qimir observed Vernestra’s spaceship descending. Unconcerned, Qimir quipped, “This isn’t for us.” The clamor of their battle reached Mae and Osha’s ears as well, prompting Mae to swiftly escape.

In the heat of the clash between Sol and Qimir, I witness the Jedi shatter Qimir’s saber. With Qimir momentarily off balance, Sol seizes the opportunity, holding his Sith enemy at lightsaber point. Just as the scene unfolds before me, Mae bursts onto the battlefield, yanking Sol’s lightsaber from his grasp. Infuriated by Qimir’s provocation, she succumbs to her rage and strikes out against Sol, following his command to finish him off.

Mae discards Sol’s lightsaber in disagreement. She insists that Sol should be brought before the High Council and the Republic for trial, regarding his alleged crimes. Despite her objections, Sol maintains that they are not separate entities but one being, born through Mother Aniseya’s use of the Force on their planet. It is crucial to mention that Qimir remains in their presence, taking in this entire conversation. Mae retorts by reminding them both that Sol had taken the life of their mother.

With Osha looking on from a short distance, Sol openly acknowledges his actions. She inquires if what he’s saying is accurate. He reveals that he required Mae as evidence. Lacking this proof, the Jedi would have dismissed Osha, denying her the opportunity to become a Jedi.

All of a sudden, Osha grasps Sol with a forceful grip, using the power of the dark side to choke him until he breathes his final breath. His precious kyber crystal turns crimson in her hand as she extracts it. With his dying words, Sol assures Osha that it’s alright before succumbing to death. The earlier vision she had was not Mae but someone else instead.

It was Osha who would kill Sol in the end.

As Qimir moves toward her, she activates her saber, which flickers between red and blue. However, the red glow prevails, completely draining her Kyber crystal.

As I wait, Vernestra makes her appearance. Upon noticing Qimir nearby, I’m taken aback as I recognize him and understand that he’s still alive. With the Jedi now departing, Mog pauses momentarily for a brief encounter with Bazil before continuing on their journey.

Mae assures the twins that she has a solution for their predicament and they should follow her. They make their way to the bridge that holds memories of Mae’s past. Descending below its surface, they discover a hidden tunnel – the very place where Mae had been trapped as a child but managed to survive.

The Jedi team arrives at the scene, discovering Sol’s lifeless body. Vernestra senses whispers of the past through the Force as Qimir conceals himself in the background. She orders the other Jedi to scour the area for the missing twins. With Bazil’s assistance, they begin tracking their scent.

At the bunta tree, Mae accompanies Osha. Apologetic and emotional, Osha confesses to not trusting her sister earlier. Yet, their moment is disrupted as Qimir warns them – the Jedi are approaching. Curious, Mae inquires of her sibling what she desires.

he could try to wipe Mae’s memory completely, erasing both her and our presence from it forever.

Mae agrees, yet Osha is hesitant about this. Mae believes that Osha will carry out what’s intended, and they both grant their approval. As they embrace for the last time, Osha vows to locate their lost sister once more. With a sweeping gesture, Qimir erases Mae’s recollections.

A few moments after that, the Jedi came across Mae resting beneath the bunta tree. Her expression was one of puzzlement as she pondered over what possibly could have led to this situation.

In fear, Vernestra recalls only fragments of her past: a house engulfed in flames, a mother lost at the hands of an unknown assailant, and herself fleeing in search of help. Yet, she’s forgotten whom she intended to confess this to on Coruscant.

In simpler terms, the focus shifts to Vernestra at a Senate hearing, where she recounts events from sixteen years ago on Brendok. She falsely accuses Sol of being responsible and claims he concealed their involvement in a crime by eliminating his accomplices. Along with the High Council, they condemn Sol’s past actions, labeling them as detrimental up to the present.

Using clear and conversational language,

Qimir.

Who has returned to his home with Osha on the unknown planet to begin their training.

The final shot is Vernestra leaving her meeting, revealing Master Yoda waiting for her.

This is where The Acolyte episode 8 comes to a close.
