Tell Me Lies season 2 episode 6 finally gets the story back on track (Review)
As a seasoned gamer who’s seen more twists and turns than a rollercoaster, let me tell ya, Tell Me Lies season 2 episode 6 was quite the ride! After a few lackluster episodes, this one really kicked it up a notch with drama, mystery, and even a dash of nostalgia.
Wow, what a captivating episode! After the past few episodes of “Tell Me Lies” season 2 felt rather underwhelming, I must admit that this one really delivered. The sixth episode of season 2, titled “Do Your Dirty Words Come Out to Play?”, managed to ramp up the drama and, for the first time, provided a sense of progress in the storyline. Are you all set to dive in? Here’s our take on it, but beware of potential spoilers below.
Starting from 2015, it’s clear Bree is concealing something, hinted in the first episode. She asked someone to give her space because she’s getting married the next day. It could be Oliver or another person. If it’s Oliver, their relationship might have continued longer than anticipated. He might even develop an obsession. Meanwhile, Diana and Pippa make their relationship official by attending a party together.
The biggest shocker of course is when Lucy texts Stepehen and tells him to meet her at the pool. Though she’s not alone. She’s having sex with her boyfriend and purposefully asks Stephen to meet her outside so he can watch. Why does she still have his number? Have they been in contact or is this a way to sort of get back at him for what he said in his speech? No one believes that Stephen has changed. I don’t know. But I for sure was yelling at my screen, Lucy no! Why would you do something like this? I’m judging the girl hard right now.
During our time at Baird College, an unexpected turn of events occurred for our circle of friends: we were all stranded on campus over Thanksgiving due to a snowstorm or, in Diana’s case, her father refused to let her return home because she didn’t perform well on the LSAT. Frankly, it was unnecessary. However, it seemed that Stephen began treating Diana harshly and displaying toxic behavior. To make matters worse, he suggested that maybe her father spoke rudely to her because she was acting similarly towards her mother. Ick! Get lost, Stephen.
Without a doubt, Stephen annoys everyone, particularly Lucy during Thanksgiving. Instead of blending in, he deliberately provokes Lucy, unable to hide his resentment towards her happiness with Leo. He mentions Becca, the girl who betrayed Leo by cheating with him, which only fuels Lucy’s distress. In a moment of poor judgment, she starts making inappropriate comments about Leo and even slaps Diana. That’s quite a mess, indeed.
It’s clear that the slap wasn’t just part of the game. Given the palpable tension and history among everyone in that room, one might wonder why anyone would think playing a game involving slaps and shots (or whatever it’s called) would be appropriate. This incident ultimately led to Lucy and Leo splitting up due to her inconsistent behavior and this ongoing feud between Lucy and Stephen. Frankly, I can’t fault him for feeling that way.
Lucy seems to think Stephen isn’t yet prepared or comfortable to disclose personal matters such as being physically abused by his father. Given Stephen’s toxic behavior during their relationship, it’s understandable that she feels this way. From the start, I didn’t perceive a strong connection between them, so… I suppose it’s goodbye, Leo.
A different way of saying the same: Evan is someone who received a well-deserved slap, not as part of a game. He wasn’t intending anything serious with Molly but led her on without any genuine intentions. To make matters worse, he acted inappropriately with Bree in front of her. Honestly, it was disrespectful. In my opinion, Molly rightfully slapped Evan because his behavior warranted it.
Furthermore, Bree struggles with keeping secrets. Instead of revealing to Evan that she’s seeing Oliver, she tells him about a 45-year-old man she’s with, which raises eyebrows given her age. Evan attempts to advise her, but she becomes defensive. It seems this situation won’t have a favorable outcome.
Returning to Stephen and Lucy, it seems there might be some hidden feelings within Stephen. On the other hand, Lucy’s emotional state is quite fragile following her breakup with Leo. She appears to have surrendered in her disagreement with Stephen, conceding that he has prevailed. Despite knowing his flaws, she confesses she still held affection for him. One might wonder why he’s treating her this way after such a declaration. In the end, Lucy departs, and we witness Stephen looking taken aback and possibly touched by her emotion. I was certainly affected myself.
In the last few episodes, I felt a bit disengaged with season 2 of “Tell Me Lies,” but it’s managed to rekindle my curiosity once more, given there are only two episodes left. The storyline is building up for the characters, and I’m anticipating an exciting climax.
Tell Me Lies season 2 releases new episodes Wednesdays on Hulu.
