Taylor Swift’s showdown with Vegas nemesis explodes as friends reveal shock source of feud

A Las Vegas residency would be the cherry on top of Taylor Swift’s latest era.

Okay, so everyone’s buzzing about her possibly becoming a showgirl in Vegas, and honestly, I’m losing it! But then I started thinking… could someone try to sabotage her? Like, is there anyone who would actually want to ruin this for her? It’s terrifying to even consider, but what if someone tries to shut down her whole show? I’m seriously obsessed and worried all at once!

Maren Wade, a performer from Las Vegas, filed a lawsuit against Taylor Swift in March, claiming trademark infringement. Wade, 43, alleges that Swift’s new album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” threatens the brand she’s been building for over ten years, called “Confessions of a Showgirl.”

According to a source close to the situation, Maren Flagg—known as Wade—likely filed for financial protection not because she’s in financial trouble, but to safeguard herself from speculation that Taylor Swift is planning a Las Vegas residency called “Life of a Showgirl.”

Friends were surprised when the show’s title was announced, according to a source. The show is called ‘Confessions of a Showgirl,’ not ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ which caused some confusion. However, she’s been developing this image and concept for over ten years.

Having a reliable performance opportunity in Las Vegas is highly desirable, and many artists will pursue a long-term engagement there. It seems she might be aiming to secure her career and ensure she can continue working consistently.

They speculated that this move was a way to get ahead of potential issues, especially with rumors swirling about Taylor Swift planning a residency. They suggested it was a preemptive effort to safeguard their brand in the city, ensuring they could continue with their show, ‘Confessions of a Showgirl,’ before a legal challenge arose if Taylor Swift announced a residency called ‘The Life of a Showgirl.’

Just a few days after filing paperwork on March 30th, Wade was seen enjoying a sunny day in Las Vegas with a friend and a dog. Photos obtained by the Daily Mail show her dressed casually in sunglasses, a sun visor, a gray long-sleeved shirt, and dark joggers. This is a change from the elaborate, sparkly outfits and feathered headpieces she typically wears and posts on social media.

After Taylor Swift revealed her new album on the New Heights podcast with Travis Kelce in August 2025, reports suggested she was also planning a concert residency in Las Vegas.

A source confirmed the reports about a Las Vegas residency, but details are still being worked out. It’s not yet certain if she’ll perform at venues like The Sphere, Caesars Palace, or Park MGM, as all the planning is still in progress.

According to another source, she’s considering performing on seven nights in Las Vegas, but doesn’t want it to be a typical, long-term residency. Her priority is a tour, so the Vegas performances would be separate from that.

Wade flooded her TikTok and Instagram with over 20 posts related to Taylor Swift, including using Swift’s songs and hashtags like ‘#Swifties,’ ‘#thelifeofashowgirl,’ and ‘#taylornation.’ It seemed she was trying to leverage Swift’s popularity to promote her Confessions brand.

Wearing her famous pink showgirl costume, Wade playfully suggested in a video that either she or Taylor Swift would need to adjust something, hinting at the album release coinciding with her birthday month. In a separate video, she jokingly asked Swift to intervene and fix Las Vegas’s traffic lights.

Prior to this she had not mentioned Swift.

However, her positive feelings towards the Grammy-winning artist seem to have changed sometime between October 2025 and March, when she initiated a lawsuit. The suit claimed that Swift, along with Universal Music Group and Bravado International Group Merchandising Services Inc., had violated her trademarks.

A mother of one, who is married, is asking a court to stop Taylor Swift from using the name ‘Showgirl.’ She is also requesting financial compensation for the damage she claims Swift has caused to her business, reputation, and public image.

As a long-time fan of Wade, I’m really worried about how Taylor Swift’s current tour might overshadow her work. Wade’s built a unique brand – she’s a showgirl, singer, and host – and it’s frustrating to see people potentially think she’s copying Swift when, actually, she’s been developing her ‘Confessions of a Showgirl’ concept for years. She even filed to trademark it way back in May 2014, and it was officially registered in 2015! She’s kept it renewed, most recently on December 3rd, 2025, showing how committed she is to her original work.

Taylor Swift applied to trademark the phrase ‘Life of a Showgirl’ for her live shows last year, but the trademark office denied her request. They were concerned it was too similar to a title already in use – ‘Confessions of a Showgirl’ by Wade – which could cause confusion, according to court documents.

According to the lawsuit, Taylor Swift’s team kept using the name, broadened its use within a marketing campaign, and made it available to millions of customers through stores. Wade alleges she was never asked about using the name.

In a court document, Wade’s lawyer, Jaymie Parkkinen, stated that Taylor Swift’s promotional efforts were aimed at the same fans Wade had been building a following with for years.

Wade, originally from California and a former contestant on America’s Got Talent, is a seasoned performer like Taylor Swift. Before becoming a full-time entertainer, she worked in real estate. In 2014, she began writing a humorous column called ‘Confessions of a Showgirl’ for the Las Vegas Weekly, which she later turned into a book and a live, one-woman comedy show. The show offered a funny and unique look at the life of a modern Vegas showgirl, both on and off stage.

Wade’s financial situation seems secure, as his father, Keith Fromm, is a successful lawyer and owns the famous Stradella Court Mansion in Bel-Air. This luxurious estate, valued at $8.5 million, has been featured in movies, commercials, and exclusive gatherings.

Wade, her husband Harlan Flagg (45, a business owner), and their son live in a large, luxurious home in Las Vegas worth $1 million. The house has six bedrooms and four bathrooms.

We were surprised to hear she’s pursuing this path – it’s really out of character for her, according to a source. It seems likely someone suggested she might be seen as copying Taylor Swift, and she’s not motivated by financial gain. She wouldn’t try to profit from Taylor like that.

She’s genuinely a good person, not motivated by greed. She grew up with financial security, and her husband also has a well-paying job, so they’re comfortable financially.

Taylor Swift is well-accustomed to legal battles and currently holds over 170 trademarks for names and phrases associated with her brands, TAS Rights Management and Bravado. These trademarks are either active or applications are still being processed.

Taylor Swift hasn’t publicly responded to the lawsuit filed by Wade yet, but she’s received support from Gayle King, who defended her on CBS Mornings, stating she’s ‘Team Taylor.’ King suggested that Swift wouldn’t have approved the album cover if she thought it would cause problems.

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Swift and Wade for comment.
