Taylor Sheridan Fires Yellowstone Spinoff Showrunner 3 Weeks Before Release

The show will return for a second season, but not with the same creator at the helm. Chad Feehan, who developed the series – a sequel to Yellowstone – and oversaw its first season, has left the production.

Matthew Belloni of Puck News reports that director Keith Feehan had disagreements on set with stars Cole Hauser (who plays Rip) and Kelly Reilly (Beth), and other long-time cast members who have been with Yellowstone for almost ten years.

Taylor Sheridan, the creator of the Yellowstone universe, and producer David Glasser were reportedly dissatisfied with the way production was being handled by Feehan, and he won’t be returning. It’s expected that someone who wrote for the first season will now take over as showrunner.

Dutton Ranch Continues Yellowstone’s Legacy

Viewers of Yellowstone were concerned that the firing of a staff member might signal problems for the show’s future, but reports suggest Paramount and Taylor Sheridan are pleased with the first season, meaning the Dutton Ranch story is still considered a good investment.

Following the conclusion of Yellowstone Season 5, Dutton Ranch begins with Beth having bought a small ranch for her family – herself, Rip, and their son, Carter (played by Finn Little), who will also be in the new series.

The show Dutton Ranch follows Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton as they risk everything to start over in South Texas. However, their dream of escaping the past is quickly challenged by harsh new circumstances and a powerful rival ranch determined to maintain its control.

Dutton Ranch Has Assembled an All-Star Supporting Cast

I’m really excited about the new cast joining Kevin Costner’s world in Dutton Ranch! Ed Harris is going to play Everett McKinney – from what I’ve heard, he’s a really seasoned vet, a kind of gruff but lovable character who genuinely cares for animals and has a great sense of humor. And Annette Bening will be playing Beulah Jackson, the new villain, and apparently she’s going to be a seriously formidable opponent – a powerful, smart, and charismatic ranch owner from Texas. It sounds like things are really heating up!

The show also features Jai Courtney, Natalie Alyn Lind, Marc Menchaca, Juan Pablo Raba, and J. R. Villarreal in supporting roles. Recently announced to appear throughout the first season is , who will play Carol, a bartender in Rio Paloma, Texas, who observes everything that happens around her.

Dutton Ranch premieres on Paramount+ on May 15.
