Taskmaster favourite Sam Campbell in first look at Channel 4’s new scripted comedy series

Comedian Sam Campbell, known for winning Taskmaster season 16 and finishing second on Last One Laughing UK season 2, is starring in a new scripted comedy series called Make That Movie on Channel 4. The channel has just shared some early photos from the show.

Created by Campbell himself, the six-episode show will premiere next month.

The show follows acclaimed director Sam as he travels the country searching for everyday people with unique concepts for short films. He then has just 72 hours to help them bring those ideas to life.

He’s teamed up with Jess (Lara Ricote from Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping), Sebastien (Aaron Chen from Drunk History Australia), Pat (Helen Bauer from Am I Being Unreasonable?), and Winnie (David Hargreaves from This Country).

The photos show Sam and his “Make That Movie” crew wearing brightly colored, somewhat flashy purple outfits. Meanwhile, the intimacy coordinator, Sebastian, is completely covered in a shimmering, hooded tracksuit and appears to be helping out with the set design as well.

What to Read Next

When the show was first announced back in 2024, after we’d already shot the pilot, Campbell described it to me as being similar to those home improvement shows where they totally makeover someone’s garden. It’s a pretty good way to think about it, actually!

This really comes down to something people love – the wonder of movies. Let’s face it, a garden has never made a billion dollars at the box office…

According to Channel 4’s head of comedy, Charlie Perkins, Sam perfectly represents the channel’s comedic style – full of colour, creativity, and fresh ideas.

He’s a remarkably creative and dedicated comedian – a natural leader for this exciting new group. It’s going to be a lot of fun!

You’ll be able to watch “Make This Movie” on Channel 4 next month, both on TV and through their streaming service.

The latest issue of Living Legends, a beautifully illustrated 100-page tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
