Supernatural Sequel Teases an All-New Monster Fans Have Never Seen

Sam and Dean Winchester are known for fighting all sorts of supernatural creatures, from monsters to demons and ghosts. This summer, they’ll face a challenge unlike anything they’ve encountered before.

This new comic book series will have a variety of cover options, including some that are completely blank and others that feature photos of stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. The creative team includes the writers of Planet Hulk and artist Eder Messias, known for his work on Spider-Man: The Lost Hunt. Given how long the original TV show ran and how much story it told, it will be fascinating to see how the team approaches this new adaptation and keeps things exciting.

Dean and Sam Winchester are back! A new comic book series will follow the brothers as they investigate supernatural occurrences across America, fitting between seasons one and two of the original TV show. Written by Greg Pak (known for his work on Darth Vader and Lilo & Stitch) and illustrated by Eder Messias (Sam Wilson: Captain America), the story explores the origins of the darkness they fight and introduces a frightening new danger the brothers must overcome before continuing their quest to avenge their mother’s death.

This new comic book series bridges the gap between the first and second seasons of the show. It will delve deeper into the existing storylines and introduce new creatures to the world. According to Dynamite Entertainment, issue #9 teases a challenge for Sam and Dean: “The Winchester brothers have always been able to handle any monster… until now.” Fans are now wondering what kind of threat they’ll face.

This Monster May Be the Winchester Brothers’ Biggest Threat Yet

Even though the TV show Supernatural finished after 15 seasons, the story continues in the Supernatural comics from Dynamite Entertainment. There are currently seven issues available, and two more are planned. Dynamite Entertainment has also published a Valentine’s Day Special starring Sam and Dean Winchester.

These are just some of the monsters Sam and Dean Winchester have faced throughout the series. To really surprise viewers, the show’s creators might need to revisit lesser-known Supernatural myths or invent a completely original creature. Could we see something like vampire sharks, or perhaps even the terrifying Nuckelavee?

Fans have wondered if the show might connect with other popular series. Many believe Hack/Slash, Army of Darkness, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer would fit well. This wouldn’t be the first time the brothers have teamed up with another franchise – they famously crossed over with Scooby-Doo in season 13, episode 16, called “Scoobynatural.”

Dynamite Entertainment is also planning a solo comic book series featuring the character Castiel. Given the show’s conclusion, there are many directions they could take. A series following the early adventures of young Bobby Singer and John Winchester, with each issue focusing on a different monster, would probably be very popular with fans.

Considering how popular the Supernatural series is, it’s a bit surprising it took so long for a new comic book version to appear. DC Comics’ WildStorm published Supernatural comics before, and those even included an early story by Geoff Johns with artwork by Phil Hester.

Supernatural #9 releases on July 29.
