Suits star reveals depression and drinking led to show exit

Five years after the series ended, Adams, who was recognized for his role as Mike with a SAG Award nomination in 2012, sat down with Jesse Tyler Ferguson on the “Dinner’s On Me” podcast to talk about his career journey. He shared that his departure from the show coincided with a challenging phase in his personal life.

Adams shared that during the final season, he neglected his mental wellbeing and excessively consumed alcohol. He admitted to leading an unreflective life, one filled with misery and what could be described as depression.

At that point, I lacked the resources to effectively manage my depression, resorting primarily to excessive spending and drinking. I was also unclear about how to discuss it, which made it even more challenging. Despite being 25 years old, I continued living life as usual, repeating my habits to self-medicate my insecurities and fears.

He explained, “They didn’t function well and were causing strain on my relationship as well as making me an absent father. It was a turning point for me, when I realized, ‘I need to quit drinking, I don’t want to be that kind of father.’

Adam, set to appear in “Lockerbie,” remarked that quitting drinking was the “most beneficial” action he’s ever taken, and further stated that he had no regrets about leaving “Suits” since it was the “appropriate choice” for his marriage.
