Matthew Modine, known for his role in Stranger Things, recently revealed his surprising thoughts on how the show ended. The popular sci-fi series concluded with a two-hour finale episode that streamed on Netflix on New Year’s Eve.
Okay, so the final episode was insane! We finally managed to save Hawkins – and honestly, the world – from Vecna and the Mind Flayer. It was a total battle, but we completely destroyed the Upside Down for good. What a relief!
The finale sparked debate, with Millie Bobby Brown’s character, Eleven, seemingly sacrificing herself as Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ played. However, Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike, suggested a different ending where Eleven actually survives.

The finale left fans split, and a popular theory emerged suggesting a hidden ninth episode, called ‘Conformity Gate,’ would be released on January 7th.
Despite ultimately being proven wrong, many fans believed the disappointing finale was a twisted reality crafted by Vecna. They thought both the audience and Mike were under his control.

Daniel Modine, who played Dr. Martin Brenner on the show, shared his thoughts on the finale in a social media post.
Fans affectionately call him ‘Papa’ – a nickname Eleven gave his character in the show – and Modine was recently asked what he thought of the series finale.
A fan asked David Harbour (who fans affectionately call ‘Papa’ due to his role in Stranger Things) if he enjoyed the show’s final episode, posting the question as a comment on one of his Instagram photos.
Not mincing his words, the actor replied: “Nope.”
Modine hasn’t explained what bothered him about the show’s last season, but he did mention the possibility of a hidden, extra episode.

When asked if his character believed in the events of Stranger Things’ ninth episode, Modine simply said he hoped so, for the sake of the fans.
When a fan asked if he still thought Eleven was alive after the show’s finale, actor Paul Reiser simply replied, “One can hope.”
Although the actor would like to reprise his role, it’s unlikely his character will be back. He was killed off near the end of Stranger Things 4 after being fatally shot by a sniper.
Stranger Things seasons 1-5 are streaming on Netflix.
