Steven Tyler is headed to trial, following child sexual assault claims

A Los Angeles court has decided that the lawsuit accusing Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler of sexual assault will move forward to trial.

The singer is facing accusations of grooming, sexually assaulting, and fathering a child with Julia Misley when she was 16 years old in the 1970s. The lawsuit, originally filed in 2022, alleges he exploited Misley by taking advantage of his fame and status as a musician. The complaint further states that Tyler acknowledged the alleged relationship in his memoir, “Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?,” referring to Misley as his “teen bride.”

A judge recently dismissed most of the lawsuit, explaining that too much time had passed under Massachusetts law, where the couple lived for three years. However, the plaintiff claims they traveled to other states, including California, while Tyler was on tour. Because of a California law passed in 2020 – the Child Victims Act – which allows people to file lawsuits about past abuse even if the time limit has expired, part of the case will still go to trial.

Steven Tyler achieved a significant legal victory today. His lawyer, David Long-Daniels, stated that the court dismissed almost all of the claims against him, allowing only a single incident from over fifty years ago during a three-year relationship to proceed.

A lawsuit has been filed against Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler alleging a sexual assault that reportedly occurred in the 1970s. The suit was made possible by a 2019 state law that extended the time allowed to report childhood sexual assault cases.

As a movie buff, I’ve been following the legal stuff surrounding the case against Sean Combs, and it’s fascinating – and disturbing. Apparently, New York has a law that allowed singer Cassie to file her sex-trafficking and sexual assault lawsuit against him. She acted quickly, filing it in federal court in New York just before a deadline – a sort of window of opportunity – closed in 2023. It’s a crucial detail because timing really mattered in her case.

A lawsuit alleges that Steven Tyler, formerly a judge on “American Idol,” sexually assaulted a woman, Julia Misley, after meeting her at an Aerosmith concert in 1973. The lawsuit claims Tyler committed criminal sexual acts against her that night. Tyler was in his mid-twenties at the time, while Misley was 16 years old.

According to the lawsuit, this was the first time such an incident occurred. In 1974, Tyler became Misley’s legal guardian and began traveling with her and the band.

The lawsuit claims he detailed the relationship in his 2011 memoir, describing how he fell in love with a sixteen-year-old girl when he was twenty-six. He wrote that he was captivated by her and considered marrying her. He even stayed at her parents’ house, and they reportedly signed legal documents giving him custody of her, seemingly to allow him to take her on tour without legal repercussions. He described her as his “heart’s desire” and a partner in passionate experiences.

The lawsuit details Misley’s claim that she became pregnant with Tyler’s child and was then pressured into having an abortion.

Tyler has previously stated the accusations against him aren’t true and has tried to have the case thrown out of court.

In a statement, Jeff Anderson, Ms. Misley’s lawyer, praised her years of strength and bravery, fueled by a strong commitment to finding truth and fairness. He stated it’s now time for Tyler to face a jury and be held responsible for his actions.

The trial is slated for August.
