Universal reveals new clip of Disclosure Day at CinemaCon

At CinemaCon on Wednesday, Universal Pictures showed off new clips from Steven Spielberg’s next movie, a science fiction thriller called Disclosure Day.

This movie represents a return for Steven Spielberg to big, summer-style filmmaking, after ten years of concentrating on more intimate stories like ‘The Fabelmans’ and acclaimed productions such as ‘West Side Story’. The story centers around alien visitors and a government cover-up of their presence.

Emily Blunt plays a weather reporter connected to beings from another world, and Josh O’Connor is a man with proof of alien contact. Colin Firth plays a villainous government official trying to stop them. Eve Hewson and Colman Domingo also star, and the screenplay is by David Koepp, known for his work on Jurassic Park.

Spielberg shared that he’s always been fascinated by what goes on in the night sky. He pointed to a 2017 New York Times article about a confidential Pentagon program studying unexplained aerial phenomena as proof that UFOs are genuine.

Spielberg shared that he thinks people are becoming more open to the idea that life exists beyond Earth. He believes his new film will both answer and raise questions, advising viewers to ‘buckle up’ for the ride.

The video featured Blunt and O’Connor bursting through a farmhouse as they tried to escape government agents, and then jumping onto a fast-moving train. Quick shots also showed a ship appearing in a dark sky and a strange hand gently touching someone’s face.

At the event, Motion Picture Association CEO Charlie Rivkin presented Steven Spielberg with a special, one-time award called the “America 250 Award.” Spielberg also encouraged movie studios to keep films in theaters longer and focus on creating new, original content. The film Disclosure Day will be released on June 12th.
