Stellar Blade 2 will be self-published, allowing marketing strategies based on franchise’s ‘unique appeal’

The main character of Stellar Blade, Eve, is returning for a new solo adventure.

The initial reviews for Stellar Blade are positive, with a Metacritic score of 81 and a 9.1 user rating. Published by PlayStation, it launched as a console exclusive, but future installments won’t be limited to PlayStation.

Shift Up announced today that development of their next game is going well and is on schedule to meet their quality goals. The studio will also be handling the game’s publishing themselves.

Shift Up announced that, starting with their next game, they will be directly handling publishing and marketing. This change will allow them to better showcase the unique qualities of their games and connect with players more effectively.

It seems the company wasn’t happy with how the game was being marketed with PlayStation. By publishing the game themselves, they’ll have more control and can release it on any platform they choose. I’m interested to see what the studio plans to do differently this time.

Following the success and lasting popularity of the original, Shift Up is developing a launch plan to achieve strong sales and connect with players worldwide right away.

I gave Stellar Blade a few hours of my time, but it just didn’t really click for me – I wasn’t compelled to keep playing, honestly. That said, I did think the combat was fun right away. It’s funny, because all the talk about the game always seems to focus on Eve’s character design and outfits. It makes me wonder if that’s what the developers mean when they talk about finding a more ‘distinctive identity’ with their marketing.

Shift Up believes their next book will perform much better than the last one, thanks to strong self-publishing tools, a plan to boost sales, and an existing, dedicated fanbase.
