For the very first time, more than 40 million players simultaneously engaged on Steam, the leading platform for PC gamers, setting a new benchmark in their own concurrent user record.
Over the weekend, Steam saw a massive concurrence of players, a remarkable 40,270,997 to be exact, which was significantly boosted by the release of Monster Hunter Worlds on Friday, February 28. This figure surpassed its own previous record of 39.9 million simultaneous users, set back in February 2025.
Indeed, based on SteamDB reports, Steam’s record for simultaneous users, often viewed as an indicator of Valve’s digital platform’s success, has been surpassed almost every month since May 2024. Over a period of approximately six months, the peak concurrent user count increased from 35.5 million to 40.2 million.
Additionally, it’s important to note that the reported figure encompasses idle Steam players, meaning those who have the platform open but might not be actively using it. However, an impressive milestone has been reached in terms of active gamers as well, with the number of individuals engaged in a game climbing from 12.5 million to 12.8 million.
2024 witnessed a significant increase in the number of simultaneous users on Steam, setting new records not once, but twice – first in March and then again in July. This spike is believed to be linked to the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds, which boasted an impressive 1.38 million players within a 24-hour period. However, it’s worth noting that 1.7 million people also accessed Counter-Strike 2 during the same timeframe. Furthermore, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), Dota 2, and Marvel Rivals also saw notable 24-hour user peaks of 819,541, 657,780, and 268,283 players respectively.
On Steam, Monster Hunter World receives a combined review score, prompting Capcom to provide recommendations for resolving PC performance problems. Simultaneously, Capcom shares preliminary information about Monster Hunter World: Title Update 1, planned to introduce an endgame social area for players.
