To mark the launch of The Forsaken Hollows DLC, Bandai Namco shared some player stats from Elden Ring’s Nightreign update on December 1st. While some things, like the most popular nightfarer characters, weren’t specifically detailed (though we can make some guesses based on available data), the stats still included some unexpected findings.
I was most surprised to learn that the Bell Bearing Hunter, despite being so frightening and difficult, isn’t actually among the three deadliest bosses in the open world. The Erdtree Avatar, Draconic Tree Sentinel, and Royal Carian Knight are all tougher, in that order. I wonder if this ranking is based on the total number of players defeated, or how often players try and fail to beat each boss. It’s possible that once people realized how hard the Bell Bearing Hunter was, they simply stopped attempting the fight – my group avoids him most of the time, skipping him about 90% of the time.

Okay, so the Erdtree Avatar at number three is kinda crazy. It’s honestly one of the easiest bosses to read – super slow and predictable. But that’s actually what makes it tough! In Nightreign, it’s way tankier and hits harder than it did in Elden Ring. I’d recommend saving this one for later in your run, because I’ve definitely messed up and underestimated it before. It can really punish you if you’re not careful!
The Draconic Tree Sentinel is a really tough and frustrating boss – I’m not a fan at all! He’s especially annoying with those powerful, instant-kill attacks. As for Loretta, the Carian Knight, she’s definitely a challenge, but I wouldn’t have ranked her as the hardest boss. And a special shout-out to those Pot Trolls guarding the castle – I really, really dislike fighting them!
I especially love two emotes: the “I’m just gonna take five” Spread Out, and the Golden Order Totality “T-pose for dominance,” which I use the most. My group, Nightreign, has even started a tradition of T-posing after we finish a run successfully.

Players have collectively revived each other 1.2 billion times – that’s a truly massive number! Bandai Namco also shared which character skins are the most popular. Assuming skin popularity reflects how often a character is played overall, we can use that data to rank the characters from most to least used:
- Wylder, 18 Million (Abysswalker)
- Ironeye, 17.3 (Sellsword)
- Recluse, 11.2 (Darkness)
- Duchess, 10.3 (Darkness)
- Raider, 9.6 (Remembrance)
- Executor, 8.7 (Darkness)
- Revenant, 8.6 (Darkness)
- Guardian, 4.1 (Dawn)
I really don’t enjoy playing as the Guardian. And things don’t look great for the bird-like halberdier either. The two new characters added with The Forsaken Hollows are just really strong. I was having fun with the unique support/damage character, the Scholar, but the Undertaker is the best – he’s fast, powerful, and plays aggressively, and I hope his ultimate ability stays as strong as it is.
