Spectre Divide to Be Taken Offline Just Weeks After Console Debut as Developer Also Closes its Doors
The “Spectre Divide” game is about to shut down temporarily, just a few weeks after its launch on consoles. The developers, Mountaintop Studios, are also closing their operations by the end of this week because they have not been able to find financial backing.
Initially, we were hopeful about the first week’s performance of Spectre. We had approximately 400,000 players give it a try, with a maximum simultaneous player count of around 10,000 across all platforms. However, as days have passed, we haven’t observed enough active users and earnings to offset the daily expenses of Spectre and our studio, as stated by Mountaintop CEO Nate Mitchell in his recent update.
As an enthusiast, I’m excited to share that we anticipate taking “Spectre” out of service within the coming 30 days. However, to ensure fairness for our loyal players, we’ve decided to halt new purchases and refund the money spent since the game’s Season 1 launch across all platforms. Stay tuned for more updates on this matter from us soon, Mitchell reassures us.
We explored multiple options to continue our journey, such as securing a publishing deal, obtaining more funding, or being bought out. Regrettably, despite our best efforts, we couldn’t find a successful solution. Currently, the market conditions are quite challenging.
I regret to inform you that I have an unfortunate announcement to make. We hold dear the project named Spectre, and we’ve taken immense pride in the joint efforts and creations we’ve achieved together with our community.
Mitchell further explained that “Spectre Divide” was a “heartfelt endeavor” for the studio, stemming from their deep affection for the genre. He described the studio as a “tight-knit group of incredibly skilled individuals who joined forces from various corners of the globe to create a game they wholeheartedly supported.
Mitchell emphasized their goal to introduce something unique and distinct in an overpopulated genre that would encourage camaraderie during memorable experiences. He explained how they disrupted the conventional structure, developed a new visual aesthetic, and associated with some of our idols. From the start, we were aware that success was unlikely, but that’s what we chose to pursue. It wasn’t guaranteed to work out, but we went ahead with it anyway.
On the 25th of February, the new game titled “Spectre Divide” was released on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, featuring its first season known as “Flashpoint.” In this game, you get to command two characters in a strategic 3v3 shooter experience. Unfortunately, if you’re interested in playing it, there isn’t much time left.
