Sorry, nightfarers: Elden Ring Nightreign does not have crossplay
This week is known as Elden Ring Nightreign, and countless Soulslike enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly preparing to demonstrate their skill by facing a series of randomly generated boss fights from FromSoft. Meanwhile, those about to embark on the Elden Ring roguelike journey may wonder…
Can I play Nightreign with my console friends?
Despite crossplay becoming commonplace in many games, Nightreign unfortunately doesn’t join the trend. Its heroes may be engaged in a fierce battle against an evil force that could potentially destroy all existence, but they are confined by the boundaries separating multiplayer platforms. This means if you’re playing on a PC, your friends on Xbox and PlayStation will have to fight their battles solo.
There’s no crossplay in Elden Ring Nightreign
It really feels like, being a gamer in 2025, a multiplayer-oriented game like Elden Ring: Nightreign should offer crossplay functionality. However, unfortunately, FromSoftware has confirmed that it does not.
In the game Nightreign, when forming an expedition team, you’ll exclusively be paired with other PC gamers. Unlike within the game, there isn’t a friends list feature for connecting console players, and you won’t have the ability to join password-protected parties created by Xbox or PlayStation users.
In Nightreign, players can join parties with individuals from different geographical areas, a feature known as cross-regional matchmaking. This capability, which has been absent from many games for quite some time, is something I’m genuinely glad to see in this game. After all, who wouldn’t prefer the opportunity to play with others across regions over not having it?
If you prioritize low ping and stable connections, you have the option to turn off cross-regional matchmaking. However, this might only be relevant if you or someone from another part of the world has unreliable internet connections.
FromSoftware hasn’t said anything about adding crossplay post-launch, but the game’s deluxe edition on Steam does promise “additional playable characters and bosses” and “additional DLC” by the end of 2025, so obviously there are updates still in the works.
But don’t get your hopes up: Elden Ring never got PC and console crossplay, either.
