The film’s setup occurred at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where Metal Sonic attacked Sonic, but Amy intervened to save him. It’s still unknown why Amy helped.

A trailer released on March 19, 2026 – a year before the movie Sonic the Hedgehog 4 comes out – gave fans a first look at the story. Besides their connection to Metal Sonic within the games, the Chaotix already share a universe with the Sonic movies. How The Chaotix Can Show Up In The Sonic Movie Universe
