“Some wishes cannot be granted”: Bethesda May Have Forgotten About the Oblivion Remake Because Ghosting Elder Scrolls 6 Wasn’t Enough
Enthusiasts of Bethesda Game Studios’ The Elder Scrolls series might find the chatter about the remake of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion sounding suspiciously like an April Fool’s prank. In truth, it could very well be one, given that we’ve only had whispers and speculation since the announcement of its development.
Despite whispers suggesting we might see a reveal or a surprise release this month, we’re now a week into April without any formal announcement. Adding to the enigma, there’s been no update on The Elder Scrolls 6, leaving fans in suspense. It seems like the studio is keeping us guessing, making patience-testing tactics a recognizable part of their public image.
Bethesda is playing a game of hide and seek with the Oblivion remake
The idea for a new version of Oblivion was sparked in September 2023, following the disclosure of plans in FTC court documents. This news ignited excitement among fans, fueling anticipation and speculation. Recently, sources like Nate the Hate hinted at an April unveiling, while Detective Seeds even suggested April 3rd as a possible secret release date. However, that day has passed without any official announcement. Regrettably, there’s still no news on this front.

So where’s that Oblivion Remake shadow drop at??
The insiders:
— Vokun (@Vokun_) April 3, 2025
The latest information comes from Jeff Grubb, who’s known for his reliability. On April 7, during the Power Block podcast, he stated that the remake might be released imminently as he said it’s “almost certainly going to be launched soon.” However, there’s a possibility of a secret release (shadow drop), but since Bethesda hasn’t confirmed anything yet, we can only speculate.
As events unfold, the community seems to be either dwindling in optimism or clinging to a sense of false hope. Reddit conversations resemble therapy sessions and contain comments such as “Some dreams can’t come true” and “We’re reaching Silksong levels of frustration.” The most disappointing aspect is that Silksong itself received updates prior to this, and there’s a chance we might even see Skyblivion before this.
Although Bethesda hasn’t spoken up, there are hints suggesting something is in development. On April 5th, a subtle Steam update took away all trailers from the page of Oblivion‘s Game of The Year Edition. Could this be a clue that they’re preparing fresh content? With both this and The Elder Scrolls 6 on the horizon, fans are really stretching their imaginations.
Oh yeah, The Elder Scrolls 6 is also a game that “exists“
The situation becomes progressively frustrating due to the seemingly out-of-place anticipation for The Elder Scrolls 6. TES6 was merely hinted at in 2018, leaving only a logo as a trace. Since then, it seems to have disappeared from view, with no updates on the project’s progress. Developers are announcing games that won’t be released for several years, making this lack of information about
Currently, it seems fans are more eagerly anticipating the prospective remake of “Oblivion” compared to “TES6“. This is primarily because the remake offers a revisit to something we’ve known before, igniting excitement for the nostalgic charm that initially made the series so memorable and cherished.
We’re currently in a wait-and-see situation regarding the Bethesda update. At best, we’re hopeful, but cautious, and each passing day without an announcement only fuels our uncertainty. The remake of Oblivion could potentially arrive any moment now, but frankly, we could use some concrete news instead.
