Sombr calls O2 Academy Brixton the ‘most poorly managed venue I’ve ever played at in my life’ in on stage rant over safety concerns… weeks after after he was pushed by ‘protestor’ during BRITs performance

Okay, so Sombr finally said what we’ve ALL been thinking! He just straight-up called the O2 Academy Brixton the WORST venue he’s ever played, and honestly? I’m not surprised. I’ve heard horror stories, and it’s so validating to hear it from him directly. Seriously, that place needs a serious overhaul! I’m just glad he finally spoke up – it’s been a long time coming. I’m so on his side with this, it’s ridiculous!

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe what happened at the show! He was incredible, of course – seriously, a Grammy winner at just 20! – but during Monday’s night at Brixton, someone in the crowd actually fainted. It was scary! And honestly, he was SO upset with how security and the venue handled it, he called them out right there on stage. I was so proud he stood up for us, but it was a bit worrying too. He just cares so much about his fans, it’s amazing!

Okay, so I’ve been seeing these videos online, and it looks like a US singer actually stopped their concert to flag a fan to security. It’s definitely a moment that’s getting a lot of attention, and it seems like they were concerned about something happening in the crowd.

He is then heard saying: ‘This is the most poorly managed venue I’ve ever performed at in my life.’

He seemed to address the venue’s security team, saying, ‘You all need to be more alert – things are really chaotic. Everyone’s safety is the top priority.’

Last month, a performer at the BRIT Awards caused a stir on social media when someone rushed the stage and interrupted his performance.

He played two popular songs from his first album, I Barely Know Her: “Back to Friends” and “Undressed.” “Undressed” was nominated for International Song of the Year, but Rosé and Bruno Mars’ “APT” won the award.

I was absolutely captivated watching Sombr perform ‘Undressed’ – he looked incredible in a shimmering hot pink suit! Then, out of nowhere, some guy just ran onto the stage and pushed him right off the podium. The whole crowd was shocked – it was a crazy moment!

The man, who wasn’t identified, turned around to show a t-shirt with the message ‘SOMBR IS A HOMEWRECKER’ before security guards quickly intervened and forcibly removed him from the stage.

Sombr quickly seemed to recover and immediately went back to the podium to begin performing “Back to Friends.”

I was shocked when he ran into the crowd, but it turns out it was all part of the show! His team let me know afterwards that the whole thing was planned to get everyone talking about his new song, ‘Homewrecker,’ and honestly, it worked! It was a really clever way to launch it.

The O2 Academy Brixton reopened in April 2024 16 months after a deadly crush at the venue.

Two security guards, Gaby Hutchinson, 23, and Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, tragically died after fans attempted to enter an Asake concert without tickets on December 15, 2022.

The venue was at risk of being shut down after police asked the council to revoke its operating license. However, after a two-day hearing in September 2023, Lambeth Council decided to let it stay open, but only if it follows 77 detailed and strict new rules.

Academy Music Group, the owner of Brixton Academy, has introduced enhanced safety features – such as reinforced doors, an improved queueing process, and more secure ticket checks – to support its application for a licence reinstatement.

Even though it was closed in 2023, the venue still invested £1.2 million in upkeep and upgrades, according to information presented at a recent hearing.
