The manhwa has returned with two new chapters that delve into some of the most intense and somber narratives seen throughout the series.
Even though the popular manhwa Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is still on hold, Solo Leveling: Arise recently released two new “Hunter Origin” one-shots to celebrate its second anniversary. These short stories reveal the difficult pasts of two key characters from the series: Antoine Martinez and Myro.
I’ve been following Solo Leveling for a while now, and it’s always been good at mixing intense action with a really gritty story. But these new Hunter Origin shorts? They’re hinting at backstories that are just as dark, and maybe even as compelling, as Sung Jinwoo’s own.
Solo Leveling’s New Characters Have Some of the Darkest Backstories of Any in the Series

I watched as Sung Jinwoo’s story began with a terrible tragedy – he was killed during a dangerous dungeon raid. But surprisingly, that event didn’t end his journey; it actually started it. His fight to survive and become stronger is what really makes his story compelling.
The idea that overcoming a difficult past makes someone stronger is a common thread in the stories of many Hunters in the Solo Leveling: Arise manhwa, particularly in the Hunter Origin series. The new one-shots focusing on Antoine Martinez and Myro continue this trend, exploring their own challenging histories.
This is the story of Myro, a human woman who unexpectedly became the wife and Queen of Baran, the King of Demons. We learn from her ‘Hunter Origin’ story that Myro was once a globally celebrated pianist. However, her life took a dark turn when a newly awakened, powerful, and cruel Hunter became obsessed with her and began stalking her.
A dangerous stalker tragically killed everyone at one of Myro’s concerts and then abducted her. While held captive for an unknown period, Myro began to experience the same mental health condition that Jinwoo’s mother had in the beginning of the original story.
Overwhelmed with hopelessness, Myro decides to end her life by setting herself on fire. However, just as she’s about to do it, Baran, the Demon Monarch, intervenes. He proposes a deal: he’ll help her get revenge on the person who captured her if she also agrees to help him defeat his enemies. Desperate, Myro accepts, and is reborn as the Demon Monarch’s heir.
Myro has a very sad past, but the story of Antoine Martinez might be just as heartbreaking.
Antoine was a devoted father and husband, and his family faced immense sadness when his daughter was diagnosed with a serious, life-limiting illness. Their situation became even more critical when she suddenly collapsed and needed immediate hospital care.
Antoine was driving with his wife and daughter when they were hit by a large truck. In that terrible moment, he unexpectedly gained special abilities, becoming a ‘Hunter.’ He immediately ran to get his wife and daughter to the hospital, but despite his efforts, his daughter tragically passed away. Devastated by the loss, Antoine Martinez made a solemn promise to dedicate his life to protecting others, honoring his daughter’s memory.
Solo Leveling’s New Hunters Make for Crucial Additions to the Franchise’s Lore
In Solo Leveling: Arise, players learn the story of Antoine Martinez, a highly skilled Healer representing France. This marks the first time his background has been shared with fans, adding depth to the political landscape of Solo Leveling and shedding light on a previously unexplored aspect of the series.
Myro is a significant character because she reveals a previously unexplained part of the Solo Leveling story. In Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, most of the Monarchs’ successors are carefully chosen by the previous Monarchs. However, Esil is unique – she becomes a Demon Monarch by accident, as the rest of her demon race disappeared before the story begins.
The fact that Myro existed proves Baran chose someone to follow him, even though she wasn’t in power when the story of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok started. This makes Myro’s story even more tragic. Despite all her hardships, she likely died with the rest of the Demon Race in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok.
On May 7, 2026, Solo Leveling: Arise received a major update for its second anniversary. The update introduced two new playable characters, Antoine Martinez and Myro, along with a new story, challenging boss battles, several new outfits, and the character Sung Jinwoo.
