Kelly Reilly, known for her role in Yellowstone, recently complimented Rafe Spall’s acting in the new Sky crime drama, Under Salt Marsh. Spall plays Detective Eric Bull, while Reilly stars as Jackie Ellis, a former detective who now teaches school.
When a new case resurfaces questions about a past investigation that’s deeply personal to Jackie, two former police partners—who are no longer on good terms—must reluctantly team up again.
With a dangerous storm approaching the Welsh town of Morfa Halen, Jackie and Bull are in a race against time to solve a case before crucial evidence is destroyed.

In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Chris Reilly praised actor Timothy Spall, saying he’d never seen Spall perform quite like that before and was incredibly impressed by the performance, hoping to see more of it in the future.
Oliver Spall, known for playing Jason Ross in the heartwarming series Trying alongside his partner Esther Smith, discussed how his role as Bull differed from Jason and what drew him to the part.
I don’t actively search for new roles during a break. When I read a script, it quickly becomes obvious if a character is a good fit for me or not.
When I read Jason’s story in Trying, I connected with it right away. The character Bull was so unlike me – he didn’t feel like an internal representation of myself, and that’s what initially drew me to the story.
He explained that people are drawn to both easy opportunities and challenging ones, and this project definitely fell into the latter category – but in a good way. He knew immediately it was right for him, especially because Kelly Reilly was involved; it was an easy decision.

Reilly also chipped in, denying that the show wasn’t in Spall’s wheelhouse.
She explained that it was great to see him working on something he was already good at, but also challenging himself to grow.
Spall said he got the part of Bull thanks to Reilly, who was the one who hired him.
He acknowledged Kelly’s importance in getting him where he is today. However, Reilly downplayed the extent of her influence, then jokingly alluded to having considered other options, saying, “I had my eye on a few other guys.”
Under Salt Marsh premieres on 30 January 2026 on Sky and NOW.
