I’ll always remember discovering the original Tomb Raider on my friend’s older brother’s Sega Saturn. The puzzles were surprisingly challenging for that era, the action was thrilling, and Lara Croft was just a really cool character. I wasn’t very good at the game, or any of the sequels that came out in the late ‘90s, but I was completely hooked on the series.
I’m getting really excited about the upcoming Tomb Raider series on Prime Video. It’s one of the most anticipated video game adaptations, and everything I’ve seen so far looks great – Sophie Turner looks perfect as Lara Croft, Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a fan of the games, and the show seems to have a lot of potential. I’m definitely looking forward to it!

Based On That First-Look Image Of Sophie Turner, It Looks Like We’re Going Old-School
I was unsure for a long time whether Amazon’s Tomb Raider show would be based on the original games or the newer reboot series with a younger Lara Croft. While it’s still not completely clear, the first image of Sophie Turner in the role suggests the show will lean more towards the classic, 90s-era games that were so popular.
Her look – the green tank top, paired pistols, round red sunglasses, and confident attitude – instantly makes me think of a seasoned archaeologist embarking on a quest for lost relics or hidden secrets. While I enjoyed the direction Crystal Dynamics took with the 2013 reboot (and even the Alicia Vikander film based on it wasn’t bad for a video game adaptation), this really brings back memories of the earlier games!

Phoebe Waller-Bridge Is Longtime Fan Of The Franchise, And I Think She Can Do It Justice
Even before the Tomb Raider show was officially announced, I believed Phoebe Waller-Bridge was the perfect choice to bring the iconic video game to television. And after almost two and a half years, I still feel that way.
It’s clear from everything she’s said about this groundbreaking game – which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year – that the series is in good hands. Her experience with projects like Fleabag and No Time to Die, combined with her talent as a writer, will be a huge asset. What’s even better is that she’s a massive fan of the games herself, and that’s exactly what we’ve been hoping for!

Please Let The Series Take Some Wild Turns Like The Games (Dinosaurs, Dragons, Cults)
If you’ve played the older Tomb Raider games, you know the storylines quickly become over-the-top. They often start simply – battling animals like bats and wolves in a newly found cave – but soon escalate to include dinosaurs, dragons, and even cults. The original game, for example, didn’t take long to pit Lara Croft against a T-Rex, armed with only her pistols and a bit of clever thinking.
The games kept getting wilder and more unpredictable, making them incredibly fun to play—except when the awkward controls interfered. I’d love to see the show incorporate all the games’ wacky levels, bosses, and unique elements. It would be amazing to watch Sophie Turner, known for her role as the Queen of the North, battle zombies or creatures from the distant past.
I’m really excited about the upcoming Tomb Raider show! I’m not sure when it will air – maybe in 2026 – but I’ll definitely be watching it on Amazon as soon as it’s available.
