The saying goes that people are often drawn to those who are very different from themselves, and you wouldn’t think Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart would have much in common.
Despite their age difference, the 54-year-old rap icon and the 84-year-old lifestyle expert have been close friends for 18 years. They first became acquainted on Martha Stewart’s show in 2008.
The two commentators are thoroughly enjoying the Winter Olympics in Italy. They’re calling the events, experiencing the vibrant atmosphere of Milan, and even sharing playful moments like feeding each other ice cream.
‘I’ve never met anyone like Martha Stewart,’ Snoop said in a 2016 Rolling Stone interview.
‘When we come together, it’s a natural combination of love, peace, and harmony.’
Justin Bieber and the person who appeared with him on a Comedy Central Roast became close after the show.
They’ve worked on many projects together, even hosted a show and surprised each other with birthday gifts. But how did their partnership start?
Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg first connected in 2008 when Snoop was a guest on Martha’s daytime cooking show.
They connected instantly while cooking mashed potatoes, and the musician even taught the businesswoman some slang terms, like ‘foshizzle’.
Reflecting on their first meeting back in 2019, Martha told NBC ‘What an odd couple we were’.
Snoop explained that Martha Stewart was a trailblazer, opening doors for rappers on daytime TV. He said they hadn’t been welcomed before, but ‘Cooking with Martha’ felt like a perfect fit, a comfortable and welcoming environment.
In 2009, a year after their first collaboration, Snoop Dogg joined Martha Stewart back in her kitchen for a Christmas special where they baked brownies together.
The crowd erupted with laughter when Snoop Dogg playfully suggested they might be missing a key ingredient in the brownies, hinting that he’d added marijuana.
Martha cheekily added they would add ‘the stuff’ later.
The brownies left a lasting impression on Snoop, as he tweeted ahead of Christmas a year later.
He tweeted at Martha Stewart, asking for snacks for Prince William’s bachelor party. He mentioned the hashtag #WET and tagged Clarence House in the message.
In 2014, Snoop Dogg revealed that Martha Stewart’s creativity was the inspiration behind his candle line, sharing this information on Twitter.
Oh my gosh, 2015 was EVERYTHING! Seeing them together on the Justin Bieber Roast was just… magical. It was like, all the hints before just clicked – that was the moment I knew their friendship was real, solid, and forever. I’ve rewatched clips of it a million times, honestly!
Martha confessed she hadn’t seen a roast before agreeing to participate, and recalled her publicist telling her it wasn’t really her kind of event.
Despite her initial hesitation, she quickly won over the audience with her humor, and unexpectedly found herself experiencing the effects of marijuana alongside Snoop Dogg, who was smoking it.
Snoop Dogg said Martha Stewart ‘stole the show,’ and he realized in that moment that he wanted to work with her for the rest of his life.
In her 2024 Netflix documentary, he explained how they first connected: they were sitting next to each other, and the smoke from his cigarette gave him the idea to suggest they spend time together and talk.
From that point on, they began working together on many projects, including joint performances and several businesses.
Starting in 2016, Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg co-hosted a cooking show on VH1 called Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party. Each episode featured cooking challenges and appearances by different celebrities.
The show aired for two seasons, ending in 2018, and was followed by a spin-off competition called Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Party Challenge, which ran until 2020.
Snoop Dogg’s passion for food led him to publish his cookbook, From Crook to Cook, in 2018, featuring recipes from his kitchen. Martha Stewart wrote the introduction.
She wrote: ‘Working with Snoop in the kitchen has been a remarkable experience for me.
He’s not only expanded my vocabulary and helped me understand different cultural things, but he’s also shown me amazing and unusual ways to cook and shared some incredible recipes.
Martha recently told DailyMail.com that she visited the rapper’s house in Los Angeles and gave him a pressure cooker as a birthday gift.
He’s a really good person. I recently visited his amazing studio in Los Angeles, and it even has a full-sized basketball court!
Over the years the pair have gone on to feature in multiple TV appearances together.
During a 2016 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Anna Kendrick and the guest played a game of Never Have I Ever, where they both admitted to having sent flirty texts, visiting a nude beach, and using their celebrity status to avoid difficult situations.
They teamed up again to host the Puppy Bowl in 2021 and 2022, a popular event that happens every year before the Super Bowl.
In April, the two friends appeared on The Tonight Show and competed in a segment called the Best Friends Challenge, which really put their bond to the test.
When asked which alcoholic drink best suited her persona, rapper Martha initially said vodka. However, she quickly corrected herself, playfully suggesting she’d actually be a ‘Martha-rita’ – a margarita, naturally.
As a huge fan, I was thrilled when Martha Stewart started her podcast in 2022, and honestly, it felt perfect that Snoop Dogg was the very first guest she had on! It just made so much sense given their history, and it was a fantastic episode.
The star previously told Insider that he was her ‘dream guest’.
She shared that Snoop Dogg was so effective because he was very communicative and she particularly enjoyed his voice.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen all sorts of expressions of affection, but a temporary tattoo to show your bestie some love? That’s a fun one! Last year, Martha playfully got a fake tattoo for a Skechers ad as a sweet tribute to her closest friend. It just goes to show, it’s the thought that counts, even if it’s not permanent!
The design included a portrait of the rapper with the words ‘My Dogg’ written underneath.
Martha posted a picture of her new tattoo online, expressing her gratitude to the well-known artist Scott Campbell. She captioned the photo ‘My Dogg’ and added, ‘Thanks for the amazing tattoo @scottcampbell.’
‘Forever linked in ink to my favorite @snoopdogg,’ she joked.
Okay, so Snoop Dogg shared something hilarious on his Instagram Stories! Apparently, he doesn’t even care if a rumor is true, because Martha Stewart said it! He literally wrote, ‘I don’t care if this fake. Martha said D-O-double G.’ It’s just a fun little peek into their amazing friendship, and honestly, who are we to question Martha?
Later in the year, Snoop Dogg publicly thanked Martha Stewart for her support in launching his new ice cream line at Walmart.
Dr Bombay Ice Cream, a new product named after the rapper’s digital character, features seven unique flavors like Bonus Track Brownie, Cocoa Cream Cookie Dream, and Iced Out Orange Dream. The rapper explained that these flavors were inspired by the strong cravings he experienced while using marijuana.
He shared with TMZ that two people were key to his success. Master P taught him the fundamentals of the business, but Martha Stewart helped him elevate it to a much higher level.
She constantly talked about her experiences with department stores, her love of cooking, growing her business, and finding new ways to invest her money.
She really helped me improve my skills and become successful in my work. Master P paid for my college education, but I think Martha is the one who gave me the practical experience I needed.
Snoop explained that when he and Martha became friends, people responded positively. He loves how their connection brings people from all different backgrounds together.
When people witness a loving and caring connection between two individuals, it inspires a similar feeling of warmth and hope in others.
‘You can love somebody no matter where they from, what color they are, where they were raised.’
Last year, Martha and the rapper became business partners when Martha joined the ownership group of Swansea City football club, following the rapper’s earlier investment in the team.
This isn’t the first time Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart have been seen together at the Olympics. They were previously photographed at the equestrian dressage event in Paris during the 2024 games, and even appeared ready to ride themselves!
Oh my gosh, it was the most amazing thing! Martha actually celebrated her 83rd birthday at the games, and Snoop and Cookie Monster – can you believe it?! – teamed up to bring her this incredible cake! It was seriously the sweetest moment, and I almost cried. She deserves all the happiness in the world!
Snoop teamed up with a blue Muppet to plan a surprise for a close friend: a special macaron cake shaped like an ice cream cone, delivered the day before her birthday.
They’re back together at the Winter Games in Italy, providing commentary for NBC.
Martha shared a photo of herself with Snoop Dogg in Milan, showing them with their hands together in prayer. She wrote that they took a moment to appreciate the beauty of the Milan Cathedral and the lively square around it.
