Kristin Scott Thomas, known for her role in Slow Horses, will star in a new stage version of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard. Directed by Ian Rickson and adapted by Conor McPherson, the play will be performed at the Harold Pinter Theatre from October 3, 2026, to January 9, 2027. Performances for critics will begin on October 13th.
Scott Thomas will star as Lyubov Ranevskaya, and the rest of the cast will be revealed soon.
Scott Thomas described returning to The Pinter to perform Chekhov as feeling like returning to a vibrant and ever-evolving theatrical home.

Conor McPherson’s adaptation of The Cherry Orchard feels incredibly modern and alive, and I’m thrilled to be working with director Ian Rickson on Chekhov’s insightful and moving play about what it means to be human.
According to an official announcement, this stage play is considered Chekhov’s crowning achievement. It portrays a world undergoing subtle but unavoidable change, and its themes still feel relevant and powerful today.
What to Read Next
Lyubov Ranevskaya comes home to her family’s estate after living overseas for many years, only to discover it’s in danger of being lost, including the cherished cherry orchard on the property.
Okay, so things are really changing in this game world. The old power structures are falling apart, and everyone’s scrambling for something new. I’m playing as Lyubov, and honestly, I’m torn. Do I try to move forward and embrace this new world, or do I get stuck clinging to the way things used to be? It’s a tough choice, and I’m not sure what I’m gonna do!
Anton Chekhov’s last play first opened on January 17, 1904, only a few months before he passed away from tuberculosis in July of that same year.

Scott Thomas plays Diana Taverner in the popular Apple TV series Slow Horses. Taverner is a high-ranking MI5 official who is ambitious and frequently conflicts with Gary Oldman’s character, Jackson Lamb.
The show recently finished its fifth season and has been picked up for two more, seasons six and seven. Scott Thomas and Oldman are both set to return as their characters.
Mick Herron, the author, previously explained his choice to eliminate key characters. He felt it was essential for a realistic thriller series about people in hazardous roles, despite their supposed lack of importance.
Slow Horses seasons 1-5 are streaming on Apple TV+.
