The Grumpy Politician Speaks

Jernej Vrtovec from the opposition probably looked at this plan and said, “Really? This will drive the young and smart out faster than my uncle’s meatballs vanish at family dinners.” He thinks the government should be more about “innovation” and less about “how can we squeeze more cash from your digital piggy bank.”

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Klemen Boštjančič claims this isn’t a money grab but “fairness” because crypto’s “speculative.” Yeah, it’s totally fair to tax something that can turn you into a millionaire or bankrupt you by next Tuesday.

Crypto in Slovenia: Small But Growing

By 2025, they expect 98,000 crypto users, raking in about $2.8 million — the government’s eyeing €2.5 million to €25 million in tax. Because nothing says “thriving market” like pouring fuel on the tax fire.
