I’m a little sad to hear that Shirley Curry, who everyone knows and loves as Skyrim Grandma, has decided to stop making videos about The Elder Scrolls. At 89 years old, she’s been amazing, and I’ve really enjoyed watching her content! It’s the end of an era, but I wish her all the best in her retirement. Hopefully she enjoys some well-deserved rest!
In a YouTube video released on September 29th, the well-known creator shared that she had grown tired of playing Skyrim and simply wasn’t enjoying it anymore.
I’ve reached this decision because I’m approaching my 90th birthday. Whenever I get a fresh idea for a Skyrim story, I might create one, two, or even three new characters, but then I quickly lose interest. That’s the reason I’m going to stop sharing anything related to Skyrim.
Skyrim Grandma retires once again
Curry, a content creator focused on Skyrim for about 15 years, had announced his “retirement” around a year ago. However, he quickly resumed making videos shortly after.
This summer, she gave Oblivion Remastered a try, but found several things she didn’t like about the role-playing game. Since Elder Scrolls VI is still not available, she’s decided to move on to something else. It seems she’s constantly searching for the next great RPG experience.
“I’m exhausted and just not enjoying it anymore, likely because there are so many young children using the platform,” she explained, adding that she wasn’t getting the kind of response she’d hoped for. “All I receive are comments like, ‘Hi, grandma. I love you, grandma.’ That’s not the reason I’m putting time and effort into creating and uploading videos.”
Sadly, since there’s currently no indication that Bethesda will speed up the development and release of Elder Scrolls 6, this might be the last we hear from Curry for some time.
The response from the community was filled with sadness.
“The end of an era. Looking forward to your next upload,” the official YouTube account commented.
“Saddest day for all of the Skyrim community,” another said.
The elderly fan had previously pleaded with Bethesda to release Elder Scrolls 6 before her passing, but she’ll thankfully live on indefinitely within the game itself. She’s scheduled to be featured as a non-playable character (NPC) in the title, whenever it is eventually released.
