Imagine combining the intensity of Rambo with the stylish action of John Wick. The result is a thrilling sequel that many consider to be one of the best action thrillers ever made. While the first movie was impressive, this sequel takes everything to the next level with bigger, more complex action sequences, higher stakes, and even more spectacular kills.
This action thriller, released in the US on November 21, 2025, continues the story of Aatami Korpi – the character famously known as “the man who refuses to die.” This time, instead of battling Nazis, Korpi fights against the Soviets and the man who killed his family. Although it didn’t perform as well in theaters as the first film, it’s become a huge streaming success since its release on HBO Max overseas on February 28th.
The action sequel Sisu: Road to Revenge, directed by Jalmari Helander and starring Jorma Tommila, is currently a huge hit on HBO Max worldwide, ranking as the second most popular movie according to Flix Patrol. It’s especially popular in countries like Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela, and for good reason! Unfortunately, it’s not yet available for streaming in the US, but you can rent or buy it on platforms like Prime Video and Fandango at Home – and we highly recommend it.
‘Sisu: Road to Revenge’ Doesn’t Take Itself Too Seriously
I went into Sisu: Road to Revenge expecting a really intense, but maybe kind of somber, action movie. Boy, was I surprised! It does have emotional beats, but it cranks everything – and I mean everything – up to the max, especially the over-the-top violence. It’s not subtle at all!
As a huge movie fan, I have to say Jorma Tommila is incredible in this role! He’s absolutely perfect as a man seeking revenge for his family, and the way he goes about it is just…intense. But Sisu: Road to Revenge isn’t your typical dark and depressing revenge film. It’s actually really fun, completely wild, and often pretty absurd. The violence is so over-the-top and bloody that it’s almost comical, and honestly, that’s what makes it so great. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it’s a blast to watch.
I’ve been following the reviews, and everyone seems to love the new movie! It’s got a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes – the same score as the first one, which is amazing. Plus, regular moviegoers like me agree; it’s currently at 87% on the site’s audience score, only slightly lower than the original. It’s really exciting to see such a positive response!
Will There Be a ‘Sisu 3’?
It seems Aatami Korpi’s story has ended, and he won’t be continuing his journey. However, as Helander mentioned to MovieWeb recently, anything is possible in the entertainment world.
It feels like a fitting conclusion. Perhaps Aatami has finally discovered something that gives his life meaning, or a new purpose. Maybe that’s his path forward, though it’s also possible he’ll encounter problems again.
This doesn’t mean the Finnish director is abandoning action films. Actually, he’s currently working on a new one: John Rambo, a continuation of the popular 1982 movie, First Blood, starring Noah Centineo. Having seen his talent with the Sisu films, we’re eager to see how intense this new project will be. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, it’s expected to be in theaters next year.
