Okay, so this is a tough one, but as someone who follows celebrity lifestyles and understands the emotional weight behind these situations, it’s clear Sia is hurting. Reports are circulating about the significant amount of child support she’ll be paying her soon-to-be ex-husband, and she’s subtly responded with what feels like a pointed message. It’s a really raw moment, and it shows how even with immense success, navigating a difficult split can be incredibly painful. She’s definitely letting her feelings be known, even if it’s not a direct confrontation.
This week, PEOPLE magazine reported that the singer, age 50, will pay $US40,000 (around $AUD61,000) to his ex, Bernard, for the care of their two-year-old son, Somersault ‘Summi’ Wonder Bernard, as part of their agreement to share custody.
After news of the settlement came out on Wednesday, Sia posted a message on X, seemingly directed at her ex, stating, ‘Good dads get jobs’.
Oh my gosh, I’m still reeling! Sia, my absolute idol, filed for divorce from her husband, Erik Lang, back in March 2025. It’s just… heartbreaking. They seemed so perfect together! They got married in 2022, and then they had their sweet little boy in 2023. I just can’t believe it didn’t work out for them. I’m sending all my love to Sia, she deserves all the happiness in the world.
PEOPLE reports that Sia will provide financial support for her child starting April 1, 2026. This support will continue until the child reaches age 18, or if they are still in high school, until graduation or their 19th birthday.
Sia covers all the costs of her son’s education, including private school tuition, activities, and health insurance.
According to reports, the couple’s custody agreement details which days Bernard will spend with their son, and how they’ll share holidays.
Sia recently posted on X, explaining she’s a working mother in recovery who is striving for a peaceful life. As the primary caregiver and sole income earner for her son, she’s also facing significant child support payments in California.
Although this year has been incredibly tough, I’ve learned valuable lessons about handling hardship, focusing on what truly matters – my family – and protecting myself from other people’s bad moods. I’ve also been reminded that everyone makes mistakes, and forgiveness is a powerful thing.
This request for full custody of the child was filed six months ago by Bernard, a former radiation oncologist.
He claimed Sia was a parent who was struggling with addiction and was not consistently capable or dependable.
Bernad requested the court order Sia to pay US$77,245 (around AUD$110,500) in monthly child support. He described Sia’s actions as careless and risky, arguing she didn’t prioritize the safety and welfare of their child, Summi.
Sia, who was born in Adelaide, strongly refuted the allegations, stating in a legal document that she had been sober for half a year.
As a huge fan of the Chandelier artist, I was really upset to hear that Bernad was spreading rumors about her and claiming she used drugs. She’s come out saying those accusations are completely false and a really unfair misrepresentation of her.
As a longtime supporter of Sia, I was really struck by what she said about Bernad. She clearly stated that Bernad never showed any proof whatsoever that the child was unsafe while in her care. It’s a really important point, and it feels like a lot of people are overlooking it.
In a court document, Sia revealed she’s currently receiving treatment for substance use at a rehabilitation program, which includes regular drug tests and the support of a sober companion.
A judge later denied Bernad’s request for sole custody.
Bernad had also asked the court for temporary financial support of $250,856 US dollars (or $366,000 Australian dollars) each month for their spouse.
I’ve been following this case closely, and it’s really heartbreaking. Apparently, Bernard says he gave up his stable job back in 2021 to start a ketamine clinic with Sia. He claims he told Sia this would mean his medical license would lapse, and now he’s completely without income. It sounds like he feels she knew the risks involved when they started the clinic together.
Sia and her former partner started a company called Modern Medicine in 2022, but legal documents claim Sia stopped providing financial support in March 2025.
It’s really upsetting, but my friend’s husband hasn’t been paid since they separated, even though they supposedly had a deal where he’d keep working at the company until July. It feels incredibly unfair to him.
The former medic asked for a large amount of spousal support to continue the lavish lifestyle he shared with Sia. This included over $400,000 each month for things like private jet travel, vacations, expensive meals, and a full staff of household employees.
Sia was previously in a two-year marriage to filmmaker Erik Anders Lang that ended in 2016.
