Should You Forgive Or Punish The Witch In Guardian’s Remembrance In Elden Ring Nightreign?
Elden Ring Nightreign differs significantly from many other Souls-like games, including its predecessor. Compared to Elden Ring and other games by FromSoftware, it employs a unique approach to storytelling that leans heavily on environmental narrative and item descriptions. This method is effective, but poses challenges for a multiplayer setting.
As a devoted fan, I appreciate how Nightreign meticulously compresses captivating narratives into each Nightfarer’s Recollections, thereby enriching their characters beyond mere basic descriptions. I, as Guardian, hail from the Pinionfolk, and my heart is heavy with regret over the fate that befell my initial flock. My recollections delve deeply into this emotional burden.
What Is The Journal?
The Journal serves as an additional source of storytelling, providing valuable insights into the thoughts and backgrounds of each Nightfarer. It offers glimpses of their past experiences and feelings towards their fellow Nightfarers at the Roundtable Hold. Each Nightfarer’s journal entries are uniquely crafted, contributing to their distinct personalities.
Each Nightfarer’s diary starts with just one initial entry. As Memory Pieces are discovered and Reminiscences are fulfilled, additional entries are recorded. On average, approximately seven to eight diary entries can be found for each character. However, the Guardian’s journal is unique, containing a total of ten entries.
To unlock new journal entries for your character, ensure you finish any pending Remembrances first, as the new entries will remain locked until these are completed.
How To Unlock Memory Fragments

In my gaming world, Memory Fragments serve as the keys to unveiling fresh Journal entries and Memories. Contrary to what the game might lead you to believe, these aren’t physical items hidden somewhere waiting to be found. Instead, they’re more like achievements that I unlock by accomplishing specific tasks within the game. As I collect Memory Fragments, new Journal entries and Memories are revealed for my character, but they will never appear in my inventory as tangible objects.
As a gamer, when I stumble upon a fresh Memory Fragment, it pops up in the corner of my screen, usually after I’ve returned from an adventure. These Memory Fragments can be unlocked through various means, and some of these techniques are exclusive to specific characters. For instance, Executor can unlock a Memory Fragment by skillfully deflecting attacks during an expedition. However, the methods for unlocking them can be somewhat unpredictable, which makes it challenging to fully depend on them.
For this purpose, you should focus on discovering more reliable strategies, and that essentially means overcoming the Nightlords. Generally speaking, earlier Recollections are simpler to uncover compared to later ones. You can unlock your initial Remembrance merely by reaching the boss during your first night, whereas the final one might demand the defeat of a Nightlord.
In certain situations, a single Memory Fragment could unlock several Journal entries and a fresh Remembrance. Since the element of chance is significant, it’s not always certain that you’ll obtain a Memory Fragment using these more reliable methods. However, persistence pays off – keep playing and winning, and eventually, you’ll earn Memory Fragments for the character you are controlling.
Guardian’s Remembrances

Unlike other Nightfarers who usually possess three memories, Guardian carries a slightly larger load of recollections. In all, he boasts four Remembrances for you to experience. These are evenly distributed among tales within Roundtable Hold, and require delving into Limveld to gather specific items. You can embark on them from the most recent entry in his Journal.
Completing Guardian’s Remembrances offers a profound look into his personality and relationships with other Nightfarers in Roundtable Hold, but there’s more to it! Each completed Remembrance rewards you with new Relic Rites, Relics, and even outfits, making them quite valuable. Here are all the ways to complete Guardian’s Remembrances:
[List of Guardian’s Remembrances and how to complete them]
Remembrance #1

The initial tribute from The Guardian is relatively concise, yet it promptly sets you up against a formidable adversary for battle. To help guide you through this challenge, here’s a breakdown of the steps, along with some useful suggestions.
- Speak with Iron Menial.
- Defeat A Golem in Limveld.
- Return and speak with the Iron Menial.
Following your conversation with the Iron Manservant, he assigns you the mission of locating a Stone Pole. This item is needed for him to shatter the lock on the Accursed Book he possesses. The book’s secrets might uncover the reasons behind the curse that annihilated the Guardian’s initial group of followers. Venture towards Limveld, and you should find a solitary Golem in a secluded part of the map.
In this setup, you can carry out the process of Remembrances individually, as pairing up isn’t an option when someone else is already engaged in a Remembrance. This means that performing Remembrances on your own might be more straightforward or less complicated.
During a fight with the Golem, it might roam quite extensively, potentially straying too far from its starting point. This could force it to teleport back, which can take some time. To avoid this issue and maximize your power, consider leveling up on the first day, then challenge the Golem on the second day when you’re stronger. Upon defeating it, it will drop a Stone Stake as loot.
After completing this Remembrance, you will unlock the Stone Stake as a Relic.
Remembrance #2

The second memorial event by the Guardian unfolds entirely within the confines of Roundtable Hold, and here’s a rundown of each step:
1. Step One
2. Step Two
3. Step Three
4. Step Four
5. And so on…
- Speak to the visitor, a Spectral Merchant. He will be marked on the map.
- Receive the Eerie Charm. You can also purchase Relic stones from him, though they are not unique.
- Return to the central chamber, where Guardian will become light-headed and faint.
- After awakening, find the Merchant and kill him to protect Guardian’s new flock.
While you are presented a choice, you must kill him.
This ends the second Remembrance by Guardian, who is then granted a fresh Chalice for use in Relic Ceremonies as a reward.
Remembrance #3

In his journey, the Guardian is guided back to Limveld due to a ledger discovered on the Ghost Ship. His objective is to uncover this ledger’s connection to the next Cursed Tome he seeks. Here are some key points and potential clues to keep in mind:
- Speak to the Iron Menial.
- Look for the Demon Merchant in Limveld.
- Trade with the Demon Merchant for the Cursed Volume.
- Return to the Iron Menial.
As a gamer, if you’ve tackled the Libra raid previously, it’s somewhat similar in nature. Unlike before, Libra won’t hex you or drain your health, but he’ll show up on the map, signaling an opportunity for negotiation. When you decide to track him down, he’ll demand 10,000 Runes in return for a valuable book. So, it’s wise not to immediately seek out Libra. Instead, spend some time accumulating Runes so you can offer him something in exchange, rather than showing up empty-handed.
After finishing the transaction, you’ll receive the Cursed Volume without any conditions. You’re also welcome to chat with Libra for another trade as if the initial one was successfully completed. Notably, you can choose not to continue the expedition and still keep the Cursed Volume. However, be cautious not to abandon the quest or you’ll forfeit all your progress.
After returning to Iron Menial, you will get the Third Volume as a Relic.
Remembrance #4

1. Guardian investigates the curse that killed his first flock, uncovering shocking truths about its origins and the cost it has exacted from him and his people.
2. He grapples with the weight of supporting his new flock, understanding the sacrifices required to keep them safe and prosperous.
3. Tragic revelations come to light, challenging Guardian’s beliefs and forcing him to confront difficult choices about the future of his community.
4. In the end, Guardian must make a fateful decision that will determine the fate of both his flocks, and perhaps even the Roundtable Hold itself.
5. The story concludes with a poignant reflection on the nature of leadership, duty, and the price one must pay to protect those under their care.
As a devoted fan, ensure you’ve successfully obtained and incorporated the enigmatic character known as Revenant into your roster before attempting to unlock this particular Memoir.
- Read the letter left by Revenant.
- Check the shelf in the study, just before the exit to the garden.
- Speak to Recluse in the garden. She will reveal her involvement in the curse, and give you the Witch’s Brooch as proof.
- Choose to punish or forgive Recluse.
No matter what decision you take now, it is certain that Guardian will eventually decide to forgive Recluse. This is because Guardian values the protection of his new group over taking revenge for the loss of his old one. After the conclusion, you’ll receive the Witch’s Brooch as a sacred artifact and also Guardian’s Remembrance clothing as rewards.
No matter your choice here, Guardian will eventually forgive Recluse because he values the safety of his new group over revenge for his old one’s death. Afterward, you’ll get the Witch’s Brooch as a relic and Guardian’s Remembrance outfit as rewards.
Once you complete every chapter of Guardian’s Remembrances, you’ll additionally encounter an extended finale involving him during the game’s final battle.
