Should you blow up the mine in Avowed? Fires in the Mine guide
In the game Avowed, you’ll encounter a side mission titled “Fires in the Mine” shortly after arriving at Shatterscarp. Initially, this task seems straightforward, requiring you to eliminate some spiders lurking in a nearby mine. However, as the quest progresses, it transforms into something quite distinct by its conclusion.
To determine the right decision for the Fires in the Mine quest within Avowed, this guide offers all the necessary solutions.
How to complete Fires in the Mine in Avowed
To begin, let’s tackle the initial phase of the “Fires in the Mine” mission. Here’s what you need to do: Locate and eliminate two spider webs nestled within the mine.
The mine may prove challenging to maneuver, but by sticking to your guidance markers, you should be able to locate both spider lairs without encountering significant problems. Each lair is inhabited by numerous spider adversaries, so it’s crucial to eliminate them first before attempting to dismantle the nests.
The nests perch atop the mine walls, enveloped in vast quantities of spider silk. To eliminate these nests, aim a Magran’s Fury grenade at their center, or unleash a fire spell from your Grimoire of the Elements.
After successfully eliminating both hideouts, make your exit along the same route you entered through the mine by keeping an eye on the quest marker shown on your map. Alternatively, feel free to delve deeper into the mine for additional discoveries; there are numerous treasure chests scattered around and some exclusive items hidden within its winding corridors and concealed chambers.
Should you blow up the mine in Avowed?
Upon nearing the mine’s exit, I encountered a soldier named Darle who wished to confer with me. Darle was dispatched into the mine with a singular mission: to detonate it. He believes this action is crucial for averting war between Thirdborn and Aedyrans. The mine harbors a great deal of explosive substances, and if either faction seized control of these resources, the conflict would likely be lopsided in their favor. By exploding the mine, we can ensure neither side gains an unfair advantage in the explosives department, thus potentially averting war.
After Darle explains his reasons for detonating the mine, you have two options: either let him carry out his task, or take action to eliminate him in order to save the mine from explosion.
Choosing to blow up the mine
If you give Darle permission to detonate the mine, he selflessly chooses to do so, which triggers an explosion. In response, you and your group swiftly evacuate the mine immediately.
When the mine detonates, you find yourself conversing with Ilena and Seyon, who inquire about why you permitted Darle to cause the explosion. You have the option of lying or being honest, but in either case, they will both be enraged at your actions for letting the mine be destroyed. Once you’ve shared your thoughts, the Fires in the Mine quest concludes, and you’ll gain approximately 1,000 XP as a reward.
Choosing to kill Darle and leave the mine
Instead of detonating the mine, you could opt to eliminate Darle instead. After exiting the mine in a regular manner, discuss with Ilena and Seyon outside the mine. You have the option to confess truthfully about the events within or concoct a false story. In this situation, it’s advisable to tell the truth since both parties accept your explanation and decide to part ways from the mine peacefully.
Taking this route will net you nearly 1,000 XP and 900 Skeyt as a reward. However, if you deceive about Darle and the mine, those rewards will be withheld from you.
Ultimately, it’s your decision whether or not to detonate the mine. Your choice won’t dramatically alter the bigger picture, but you’ll receive additional rewards if you eliminate Darle, confess the mine incident to Ilena and Seyon, and witness an exciting explosion in the process. Make your pick based on your preferences.
